That would be the safe/smart play. I'd get sucked into trying to restore it to it's former glory.
Is it any wonder that those who are strongly sentimental are rarely wealthy and vice-versa?
Feel your pain. I'd fix it up too. Hate to break a perfectly good car. Hate even more those who do with no regard. That's what accident victims are for. Or rust buckets.
Honestly not a terrible price... fix some rust and take it to a paintless dent guy and you'd be golden.
Easy Money there. Just be aware, you're looking at 250 in parts alone for the timing belt/water pump that is VERY likely due. You don't want to price a rebuild on that engine.
Even if it goes, though, it's non-interference. Not that I'd really want to push it.
If you do tbelt/water pump, you may as well do all the front oil seals, which all go bad eventually. I just bought all the parts to do mine and it's a hair over $300. Not the cheapest car in the world to work on, and there aren't really any aftermarket replacement parts. Gotta buy from Subaru.
In reply to gearheadE30:
Yeah I'm doing the same with mine right now. AFTER buying a 500$ 98K motor. Need to invest in a welder or find an aftermarket oil pan. High gee oil starvation is a real issue. BUT I GUESS that will teach me to hit a corner @ twice the posted speed limit.
I'd like to take the motor from one and stick it in my rallyx e30, then watch the scooby guys' heads explode. On a more serious note, one of the fastest guys runs an impreza wagon w/ one swapped in. It sounds SO gooooood.
I also want to take a 3.3 and stick it into a GC Impreza. Chassis bracing would no longer be optional with that setup, though.

THIS! The night I brought it home I said the same thing. The SVX is a pig weight wise. A stripped out "lightweight" impreza would REALLY highlight this motor. Though with the newer H6 motors, the packaging is easier.
