Did the barn collapse on the poor thing? That tank is ruined. I'd love to see more, especially if there is damage to the frame.

Thats a nice bike. My dad had one in the early 80's and I remember him bitching everytime he had to put it on the center stand. That thing looked heavy.

They are popular but, in reality, the '78 XS11 is a faster bike, with shaft drive. And is much easier to maintain and way more reliable. The CBX's thing is seeing those sweet 6 cylinders below you. The 78 XS11 ran mid 11 1/4 miles stock and sub 10s with a chain drive and very mild mods. Almost 100bhp and almost 80 lbs/ft torque out of an engine as reliable as a late 70s BMW boxer.

I've ridden both an XS11 and a CBX (not back to back). The XS11 was a brutal beast that wanted to go hard and fast, but the shaft drive's torquing the whole bike around would take some getting used to. The CBX was super smooth and sounded great, but was heavy and clumsy at low speeds, it was also high maintenance by Jap bike standards. I wouldn't kick either one out of the garage, but most days I think I'd chose the Honda.

I have a 78 XS11. Damn thing can do wheelies in all gears at half throttle. The japanese couldn't build a chassis to save their lives back then. The 78 is special as it only came 1 way, had a kick start back-up and was lighter and had more bhp than the later ones. The chain helps with rear tire width too. Just like a BMW, you have to use a narrow rear tire. Konis in the rear and a fork brace up front help a little but the damn thing is well over 500 lbs dry.
