Dad's got an old Frank Sinatra Edition 1981 Imperial he wants to get rid of. Last I knew it was a great running 318 with a Holley carb conversion and a transmission just beginning to slip going into reverse when cold. Dad probably has another good transmission, but no one ever got around to fixing it up. Now he wants it gone and has used the c-word (crush). Someone save this iconic shag carpet masterpiece and do something fun with it.
Think he was looking to get in the $500 range last time I talked with him, maybe more if you actually wanted the Imperial-only snowflake rims. Give him a call or me an e-mail and set something up. It's in Vermillion, SD, zip 57069.
Wow, never heard of the Sinatra Edition, but if ever there was one....
I always thought these Imperials were cool in a sort of odd and unique way. Big over sized and somewhat over styled V8 beasts in an era where Chrysler was sliding into all-alike fwd boxes.
I kinda like these cars. There's been one on a car lot in Greenville, SC for years.

Another vote for oddly attracted to this body style.
Me too. It's a set of wheels and some minor clean up away from being straight out of Batman the animated series.
I don't care if you're lying, tell me the shag carpet is white.
I'm very disappointed in Frank Sinatra.
But, don't tell him I said that.

I remember this! Frankie his own dang self was convinced to make commercials for Chrysler Corp. in the 80s. Stuff like that was big news back then, because real stars just "didn't do television" (and certainly didn't do commercials!) back then. Here's one of the ads:

Not sure if a "Sinatra Edition" would be an 81..the website where I found that commercial I mentioned says it first aired in the 82 Super Bowl (and the most expensive CMs of the year aired during that broadcast even back then).
Probably a good thing its too far, cause I would have snatched this up

That's pretty darn cool.
Anybody know of any other musician-endorsed special edition cars?
What makes is a Sinatra edition? Is there a body in the trunk? Does it come with a Martini Bar? Can you plug a microphone into the radio? We need details man!
Special badging and color, tape deck, and the center console had a 16-tape set of Frank's greatest hits. Beyond that I'm not sure what set it out from other Imperials.
These were the best of the best in their day. They were TBI 2 years before the Corvette was even equipped with the crossfire injection. Power everything, and ask your local dirt track if you can demo-derby one and they will tell you no. Top of the line in their day, if you were a Chrysler fan.
Turns out Dad's is an '82, too, BTW.

8 Track or Cassette? The 16 tape set is a very cool idea.
Cassettes, which is pretty darn cool for '82.

Allright! Roc..uh, I mean "croon" on!
opelguy, the thing actually came with tapes? (and I know cassettes were the BMW E36 in 82..my first aftermarket audio purchase was an Alpine c-player and head unit in 1980 or so)
According to all the materials on the car though it did come with tapes. We don't have the tapes anymore, but it did come with a silver-faced cassette player that is sitting in the trunk of the car right now and a special console for holding the tapes. My little brother daily drove it for a while in the late 90's and had an aftermarket CD deck in it.
If you can get it to me. I love that car. Are you Mitty bound?

The Corvette had a fuel injection option in '57; just sayin'
That was mechanical not TBI

Damn. That was my thought exactly. Bring car to Mitty. Win Concours D'LeMons. Sell car at Mitty. Pay for trip. MN to GA is a helluva horrible drive though.

The '68 VW Type 3 came standard with EFI; just sayin'
I can't get the time off to either do the fixing up it would take to drive it or make the trip, so me dragging it anywhere isn't really an option. If you're within a weekend we might be able to work something out, but my time will probably cost you more than the car.
