Right now with the value of MGB's what they are the smart thing to do is buy the nicest one you can. You can buy a really clean but maybe not concours MGB tourer or GT for a lot less than you could make a ratty one nice.
Of course I didn't follow my own advice, but I bought my MGB-GT almost 20 years ago.
