At first glance I thought this was going to be the Roadkill 455 powered Mazda truck.

I do not remember those trucks ever coming with that bed.

Most didn't. Think it was a dealer install back then. I think I remember the box being metal with fiberglass fenders, could be wrong though. The Ford Courier also had stepsides dealer installed. Believe it was almost the same box but different fenders to match Ford. Been a long time since I've seen a Luv. Luv's came in 4X4 also.

Back then they were imported without beds to avoid the chicken tax and the beds were put on here in the U.S., so pretty much any dealership could have had someone do up a custom step side bed. I'm actually surprised utility and step side beds weren't more common.

The beds were made by California Stepsides, and if you want odd and rare, Check Out This Stepside

I learned to drive in one of those. It was not a stepside. Isuzu driveline. Thing would always start and always stall once. Then start again and run all day. Didn't matter if it was hot or cold out, always stalled once. Very slow, very noisy. Not a fan.
