Well awhile back I got a TPI manifold setup from a fellow board member sadly I have yet to be able to locate a ECM or harness local for the thing. The manifold is off a '91 Vette and will be going in the Olds. Anyone have these parts laying around that they are willing to sell?
If I remember right the '91 Vette ECM had something that was unique to the car that would keep it from working in another application and it had to be reprogrammed. I'm not sure if an earlier unit will work just fine or not? Anyone know? I just want to try and get the Olds up and running this summer and if I can't get these parts on goes a carb for now.
The pass key IIRC. If you get a painless harness it has the "work around" built into it.
Or you can have it programmed out of the chip I believe.
i've decided to squirt mine so i do have an ecu lying around. i dont have a good harness for it though as i have scavenged it pretty severely. i think the ecu is from a 86 or 87 305 camaro and i'm not sure if it is speed desity type or not. (i just bought the setup for the harness and hardware so i really didnt pay much attention) i am pretty sure it doesnt have a VATS system on it and it does have a mass airflow sensor base (you can have that too if you want).
i also have a 89 ecu but i know that one does have VATS and the cost of the bypass chip makes it essentially the same cost as squirting! i will look up the ecu codes and if you want either or both of them i'll drop it/ them in the mail to you for shipping from 30316. they have never been installed or tested though so i cant verify for sure they would work.

There's only 15 different resistor values used in the VATS keys. that's like $10 at Radio Shack and a bit of trial and error.

when I installed remote start car alarms in the mid to late 90s, the kit came with the resistors and told you how to defeat the system GM had. Another was the smart keys that were starting to come out then. We would simply take the key apart and we would glue the tiny transmitter from the key in the inside of the car. High security was the way to go back then.
fair enough. you are right i could play around with resistors and all that to get around the vats system. however, the original question seemed to ask if the ecm could be reprogrammed, so i answered relative to what i know about what can be done from the ecm side.
you can get around your vats however you would like to do it....
itsarebuild I sent you a pm
Yes the chip can be burned to bypass the VATS.
Still looking for a harness guys. Anyone have one or know of one in their local yard they could pull for me? My local yard seems to be crap for such goodies...
Have any interest in a Paxton supercharger kit for TPI Camaro? Looking for $1500 OBO, complete kit with 10k miles on it.
I have a great interest in a supercharger setup however I could not afford it at that price right now.
