Actually what I'm looking for is the alternator bracket from a non A/C car. I prob could fab something but if I don't have to it's not going to hurt my feelings.

The block bolt holes one all the 8v engines are the same, so it should.

That is for a 16v engine with AC. The Non AC one was shorter and without the ALt extension. They pretty much all had AC.

Edit. It has been 10 years since I dabbled with VWs But I recall moving the alternator down to the AC compressor mounting Plinth, shimming the Alt pulley out wards and sourcing a Non AC water pump pulley from a Real VW Rabbit. This was when these cars were common in the junk yards.

We ran into this problem with our Golf circle track racer. All 1.8, and 2.0 brackets we found fit, but the length of the belt will need to be different. Even the amp output of the altenator, made a difference on the bracket. It would bolt up, but again the length of the belt was different. According to our VW expert there are 6 or 8 different belts, depending on that bracket.

I'm aware of needing a different belt size, but I'm trying to get rid of the ac compressor. Don't know if I will have to change out the alt pulley or not.

In reply to Spinout007:

I keep pushing this back on my to do list on the Scirocco, but....

-Take a/c alternator bracket out.

-Cut off half that used to hold the alternator. Resinstall back in car.

-Mount Alternator where AC comp used to go.

-Alternator pulley from non-AC car required.

-Add in new belt (not sure the size right now)

(some shimming may be required.)
