Last summer, I met an old guy who had actually restored one of those.

I have two of them. I had three of them until last weekend.

I wonder how rusty that one is. I own this car's twin but the rear shock towers are mostly missing.

Woody, the guy you met certainly wasn't alone in restoring one. There are quite a few.

If it "hasn't been washed in years", why not break out the soap and brush. Geeeezzee.

What's the chance that this one is one of the 1.6 turbos? 1986 should have been the last of 'em...

The Turbo cars were '84 and '85 only. This is an '86 Sport Coupe, which = 1.9HO

It was a sign of the times. Personally, an Escort wagon with the GT/EXP rims like those above would be the coolest.

I lived close to Detroit during the mid-late 80's,and got my license in '84...that was when it was really cool to see 'boy racer' parts on the plebian cars (Escort/Omni etc.) in order to fight the Civic.

They're simply a lightweight car with a decent chassis and retro looks at this point. I didn't buy one new and I probably wouldn't have if given the opportunity when they were. It helps that they're practically free and very uncommon now.

... and I agree with the wagon sentiment above, except I'd also want the GT engine and trans in the wagon.
