This brings back some great memories. My first real "project" was an 11' wooden runabout I picked up for $50. Replaced some rotted wood, recovered the seat, added lights, rebuilt the steering setup and added a Merc 20 OB for some go power. That thing would flat out fly! At 13 years of age I couldn't have been happier. Gotta find pictures of mine. I've got a polaroid somewhere...

Its ok, there's a GRM solution to this issue. There's also a bigger version called the minimost XL. Google around for plans for either.

I am already into a similar second hobby with this racing group: Cocktail Class http://www.ccwbra.com/ You have to use a stock 6hp or 8hp on a one design boat, definitely addicting and much cheaper than cars.

Didn't expect to find this on GRM.....

I built a Minimax in middle school with my dad, we would lug it around on the deck of our "big" boat for vacations. My dad had built a few with his dad in the 60s.

And my neighbor is into old Mercurys like the one shown. I'm his test pilot:

With a 7.5 and an adult, likely in the low 20mph range. A modern racing runabout with bigger power can be much faster.

My cousin built something like that. He said that 7hp was good enough for about 25 mph, which sounds punishing enough.
