I'm done with this car, in more ways that one.
The coil frick'n exploded, but apparently THAT was just a symptom of another problem. So I'm done here, time to move along.
The engine ran great except for the whole ignition system being crappy thing. No chain noise. 196,000k on it. Transmission was fine, as was the clutch.
The wheels are 2001 VW GTI 17" wheels with pretty new Nexen tires (225/45-17). I'm wanting $500 for the tire & wheel set.
The interior is tan and in good condition. It was my DD. It is pretty much intact. I'd really prefer not to ship anything. Tell me what you need. I'd prefer to sell the door handles last, so I can still get inside if needed.
I'll sell the whole car if someone wants it, but the wheels are a separate deal.
Oh yeah, I'm open for trades. I dig old dirt bikes, air compressors larger than 10 gallons, engine hoists, and long walks in the park.
in Atlanta? Shut up! where abouts?

I'm in Clarkston, about 45 minutes from you. Pretty much at Stone Mountain Freeway and 285.
To quote the Varsity: "What'llyahave?!"
yeah I'm thinking I want the whole thing too, just don't know how I could swing it, with the wife not sending me out to sleep in it. How much ya want, I could throw in an old cb200 as a partial trade.
The Duke is coming to take a look at it probably this weekend, I'll let you know if he doesn't want it.
sweet..keep me informed
On side note...anyone know how hard it is to swap a VR6 into a 92 GTi?
In reply to Spinout007:
Its a fairly typical swap, should bolt right up.
Start a parting thread Here, you should be able to get $1500 or more out of the parts if you're patient and have the space.
Hmm - this car, + an A1 to hang all the fun parts on, seems like it could be a fun, cheap toy.
Man, I didn't think anyone would want it. I had thought about keeping it for my own devious plans but my desire for garage space proves otherwise. All proceeds of this sale will benefit me and my probable purchase of my uncle's '75 Dart (225 slant-6, auto with working A/C).
I want it too, but the mileage thing doesn't work for me. A VR6 Beetle would ickkay asskay
I've comp tested some of those motors with 200+k and they get 180+ on all cyls dead even. Pulled apart more only to see perfect bores and cross hatching. Some valve seals and a headgasket away from running another 200k.
Where was this when the trans died in the Corrado...??? Is a sad man today.
I'm thinking of selling my VR6 5 speed Passat, if anyone wants to build something cool with it. Needs a heater core, but I could bypass it and you can drive it anywhere. Hopefully south, as you'll have no heat.

I had the heater core in my replaced last year, one of the few repairs I haven't done myself. The shop offered to do it for $400 so I jumped at the chance. Afterward the guy said he'd never do one again.

Yep, I had a '91 Passat before this one, and did the heater core myself, hence the reason I've procrastinated so long on putting a new one in this car.
yeah, I'm thinking this might be the way to go to get a bit more umph in my GTi, vs homebrew turbo.....heater core not necessary.
The whole front suspension, and the springs if you cut them also work pretty well on a gti.
Tentatively sold to the Duke, he's going to pick it up next Saturday.

Yup, definately! Awesome car in awesome shape!
Well the Duke drove off in the Passat just a little while ago. Sad to see it go, but now I can check "VW" off my manufacturer "to do" list.
Made it to Buford in great shape! There was a wreck on Jimmy Carter and traffic was backed up and i was say "dont break down on me!!!" it didnt.
