Seeing that the mazda developed transmission was used in the Probe fitted with KL motors, and the KL motor was fitted into the MX3, I'm wondering what would be involved in swapping the 3.0L into a BG chassis.

Swank, any insight on this insanity?

While Mazda built the MTX-IV in the SHO, it wasn't used in any Mazda products. The Probe/MX6/626/MX3/Escort/Protege used the G5M. An MTX-IV might bolt to a KL series engine but I've personally never seen it. A 3.0 Yamaha engine would be a fairly difficult swap into an MX3 or any Mazda. The beauty of the KLZE is that it drops right in.

Also, MTX-IV's in good working condition are getting somewhat rare. However, they were pretty much the stoutest FWD manual transverse transaxle that Ford/Mazda put together. They even made a version with shorter gearing for the V6 Tempo/Topaz, but those would be practically impossible to find.

the Amazon and 142 temptation is bad enough as it is. I figure that in 4-5 years wrecked 2.3L ecoboost mustangs should be reasonable.

The problem with the sho v6 with swapping into another FWD offering is the height of the engine. It has been done to a Nissan Pulsar and the oil pan is about 2" off the ground with the intake still tucking under the hood.

The KL series engines also have a different bellhousing pattern. The v6 sho engine only shares with the Ford 3L OHV "Vulcan" engine. The Vulcan had a MTX-III transmission available in the probe, tempo, and topaz IIRC. The MTX-III is a bit weaker than the MTX-IV, but the differentials all suck.

Hell, I'd sell my '95 for $300 or so or throw it in with the '91 3.2L swap for $1400.
