Does GA have emissions testing?
Wow. I feel bad for the automotively ignorant. He's $200 away from having a running car. Also, Lemons?
$830 for a pair of converters from rock auto. The "univeral fit " ones listed don't look like they'd fit, or would require lots of welding/fabbing to get to fit. Provided there's good metal to weld to. 240k miles on top=pass for street use. Isn't this a Mazda MX6 engine/car? Yes/no?

No.
That said, i'd rock it, because i can get away without running cats on that thing.

How? No smog check in your area? And I should have asked 626.
Cheapo aftermarket cat from a muffler shop would be waaaay under stock replacement prices. Call muffler shops before you give up based on cat replacement prices.
I looked up the exhaust system of it on Rock auto, and the cats are basically welded to the exhaust manifolds. They're almost (are) part of the manifolds.

No smog check here, no. I don't get hassled for my cat-less bumper dump.
626 is same thing as MX6, just two more doors.
It's closer to a regular contour or even Taurus.
Hammer out the stock cats and put one big aftermarket one downstream.

The V6 Contour/Mystique/Cougars have 3 cats. 2 small ones are "pre-cats" that are part of the exhaust manifolds, and one is a normal sized cat in the normal cat location. The 2 that are part of the exhaust manifolds are really only there to satisfy cold start emissions (the main cat is too far away from the engine to light off in the time required by the EPA). If you need emissions testing and your pre-cats are bad, just make sure your main cat is hot and you'll be fine.

I have a SVT and the Pre-Cats and the exhaust manifolds are all one piece. You can buy aftermarket ones that look similar to the stock ones but the price could be over 1k for the pair. If you live in a non test state or area then I would jump on it. Good used Pre-Cats can be purchased from people parting out their Contours. See Contour.Org
In states that do testing some like Illinois just check for CEL codes. If code free then you are good to go. If the Pre-Cats are bad it will cause the CEL light to come on and you will not pass this test. You can get around this if you cancel the CEL and then get the car tested right away, as long as the CEL will stay off long enough. That's how I passed my last test. I have since fixed my problem and can pass the CEL test.
I've seen used manifolds on CEG for $40 ea. lol.
Nice to see a CSVT still out and about.
Want. I miss both of mine...
