Looks like a solid resto start, or a good engine swap candidate.

I emailed the guy on this here is his response:

"As of right now I have both triumphs. Both have rust in various places including the floors. No titles as it is not required on vehicles this old in Georgia."

The Spitfire mentioned currenyly has the motor from the GT6.

Not only is a title not required in GA, it's not possible to get one.

The state WILL NOT issue a title for a vehicle older than 1986.

But, because of this, most other state will issue a title based on GA's bill of sale. A friend of mine who deals in classic cars in AL loves reselling GA cars because it is so easy for him to get clean titles. He ships things overseas (Germany, etc) frequently, and loves GA bill of sales.

GA rules on titles, let me tell you, we titled our 1986 XR4Ti 2 years ago with a title from a 1985 XR4Ti whose VIN was off by 4 digits, you tell me any other state that doesn't have a comptuerized cross check on the VIN when you do emissions, this was in FULTON County too

We actually got worried about it and called the insurance company, had the actual vehicle inspected by po-po, contacted former DMV in N.C. and got records, we had a bill of sale but no title as required by law for an 86 and newer vehicle, I spoke with a DMV agent on the phone and said, just bring all the paperwork and don't worry about it, we'll issue you tags and registration, my jaw hit the floor. This was ATLANTA, FULTON COUNTY!!!!

This is NOT correct. But, this is what the morons at the DMV will often tell you. Actually you can title a classic car in GA. You must have the correct docs and go to the right DMV clerk however. The local Mini guys do this all the time.

But it is true you only need a bill of sale to register on older cars.

If you say so, but the state of GA disagrees:

GA Motor Vehicle Division

According to the GA Motor Vehicle Division, a 1963-1985 year model vehicle is not eligible for a Georgia title. Even if the Mini guys say otherwise.

Hate to tell you this but its not a matter of them 'saying otherwise' they ARE actually getting GA titles on pre 85 cars. So sorry. :-)

From the DMV website:

Vehicle Title Optional You can title a 1963-1985 year model vehicle if you have a title issued in your name. You can title a 1963-1985 year model vehicle if the owner on the front of the title has assigned the title to you. You can title a 1963-1985 year model vehicle if the owner on the front of the title has assigned the title to a dealer and the dealer has assigned the title to you.

The exception to this is when/if that vehicle has already been registered in GA by another person other then the owner listed on the title.

So, there you have it. Like I said, dont believe the moron clerks at the DMV office. You can get a title for your old car, under these rather normal conditions.

Note that every one of those conditions includes the existence of a previous title.

A lot of them don't.

Since the car in reference here does not have a title, I stand on my statement, that it is not possible to get one. GA won't issue it, according to the information YOU gave.

But, like I said earlier, I wouldn't let the lack of a title in GA deter me.

Bill of Sales function as titles in GA, and vehicles previously registered in GA can get titles in other states with or without a title.

I was addressing your blanket statement...

Quote: The state WILL NOT issue a title for a vehicle older than 1986.

...which is UNTRUE. :-)

This car? Another matter.

I realize this argument has gone way too long, but according to the info you supplied, my blanket statement was completely true.

The state of GA will not issue a title for a vehicle older than 1986. In accordance with the info you provided, they will RE-ISSUE one if one already exists.
