I have a 1977 Triumph Spitfire 1500. The motor was blown so i started this project a couple years ago. It has a 1988 302 ford with a T5 5 speed transmission bolted in. It has been sitting since my divorce and I want to get rid of it. It does NOT run. It needs a radiator and wiring as well as the clutch cable installed. It also has a hard top as well as the convertable top that is in good condition. email for more photos and details.
Thanks
John

Dibs. I emailed him. It would nicely compliment the 5.0 Volvo and 5.0 RX-7 and help replace the 5.0 Miata (for sale!)
That doesnt sound like a good idea at all. Seeing that most of a spifire looks like it was built from an erector set, how is that not going to disassemble itself the first time you take off or corner hard?
In reply to Travis_K:
I am really curious how much work he did other than the swap. If all he did was bolt the motor in the diff is pretty much going to grenade as soon as he hooks up a driveshaft.

You should keep the Miata and add this. You could be the anti-LSx swap guy! ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)

Your neighbor said the Spitfire could live at his house for a while.
For some reason I doubt that car would handle very well.
He hasn't responded yet ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/whatthe-18.png)
I dont mind trying to figure out a rear end solution or figuring out a new front subframe also. Maybe it will turn into a flared car to fit the rubber and supsension.
People also say that an Iron block/head V8 Miata won't handle but we somehow managed a top 20 autocross finish at the Challenge with no slicks, fuctional clutch or Pro Driver. I didn't notice any odd handling issues.
The stock diff will take the V8 power, as long as you don't get foolish in 1st and 2nd gear, especially 1st. After that, you're fine. At least that's what I've been told by the many people I know who have V8's in Spitfires or other like powerplants, connected to the stock differential.
I doubt it would handle any worse than a GT6. That engine has a similar weight, but was stuck out in front of the wheels.
Talked to the owner and should be picking it up on Saturday. Essentially it just needs the clutch line run, wiring, radiator and exhaust after the headers. Driveshaft is in to the stock rear end. Carb sticks 4 inches out of the hood. Comes with a hard top and a boat load of stuff. Apparently a rust free car thats been stored indoors.
Seems like a straight up guys who just has too many problems on his hands. He has a boat and an XJS vert that he wants to finish. After telling him about the Challenge and how it was local to him he almost wanted to keep it.
I'll try to post pics if we get it. Now to get some WIDE wheels and nitrous for the challenge. I figure a soft launch and shifts and it might hold up to a few drag runs.
I have some spitfire stuff including 13x8 diamonds that I will let go for cheap if you want to pick it up on your way by. Hell, how big is your trailer? Want a GT6 for $500 while you are at it?
MrJoshua, weren't you going to sell Greg some RX-7 stuff too?? ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)

That's true, thanks for the heads up.
Picking it up tomorrow.
Am interested in the rims and probably the RX-7 stuff. Probably not enough room, money time for the GT6 but defenitely will look at it.
Shoot me an email with you number and I'll give you a call tomorrow.
I'd love to meet you while you're in town, if possible. In fact, I've got some FC stuff you could have, if you have room and want it. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
Greg, feel like two trips tomorrow?
I just sent you an email through the old conversation we had about the rx7 diff.
Im down for that. I can always use more RX-7 stuff. Maybe do a mini meet lunch or something.
My cell is three eight six three three seven four five three eight.
Sounds good. MrJoshua has my contact info and lunch time should work!
So how does it look? Pics?
