I had an 89 Si that got better mileage over time as the engine loosened up. I would frequently break 40 mpg as it got close to 300k miles.

Back when they were new, both the DX and Si had the same EPA fuel mileage rating. But in real world driving, that fuel injection DOES make a difference.
