I've always tried to figure out if I like these or not....
...still not sure.
Same engine as the Trooper. I never realized before that they are body-on-frame.
You like it Stan. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)
They are stupid expensive down here in TX.
I believe they only came with an autotragic.
I've... never heard of or seen one of these before.
Huh.
Notable for the clever "Torque on Demand" transfer case and reservoir shocks. It seemed to have a rep as the SUV that zigs well before the Cayenne. Rated towing capacity is zero. Terrible rear visibility. Boring interior, effing insane outsides. It was Isuzu's attempt at a limited-production image vehicle much like the Plymouth Prowler and Chevy SSR. I had some close calls on buying one in early 2003. I've test driven several. I still would like one, but this is too far away, and right now, this would be at the expense of a sports car.
I want one but it's gotta be a manual.
probably crazy stupid expensive to reconfigure from scratch
Looks like you can just bolt up a trooper manual trans:

I chuckle when people call an Aztec ugly, but like these!!!
Is anybody else tempted to put some closed cell foam behind that plastic cladding and maybe in a few other spots in order to see how well it floats?
Insert LSx, proceed to troll?

For me, that's the previous generation CRV. It looks like some sort of hovercraft. The Vehicross seems to have a better balance, so it's wearing the cladding, rather than being consumed by it. At least, that's how I see it.

When I was on the Isuzone forums (had a Turbo 80s Impulse) there was a guy with both generations of Turbo Impulse, a Trooper, and one of these. I think he was their king...
I saw one of those for sale by me recently, I think they are kind of cool. For some reason I really want an amigo. Don't ask me why I just think they are cool looking. Like a bad ass geo tracker
yeah, I think there is some sort of cult for these things...
This seems like it would be hard to go wrong for $1500. These things still fetch good money in running condition.
From what i remember, the cats like to go bad and they're hideously expensive to replace.
I'm thinking for $1500, drop in another motor, do the manual trans conversion, straight pipe redneck exhaust, and a megasquirt, still end up with less than a running one would cost, and with 100% more awesome.
