CraigsList Ad said: 1981 VW Dasher Diesel - $2800 (Waupaca) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: 2012-09-16, 8:35PM CDT Reply to this post 78hgf-3276578361@sale.craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is an original owner 1981 Volkswagen Dasher diesel 4 speed. This is a 45 MPG plus vehicle! The chassis has 290,000 highway miles and the engine has only about 70,000 miles. It has been shedded for the last 20 years but started and driven up and down the road every summer since. The brakes, drums, rotors, ball joints, tie rods, wheel bearings, exhaust system have less than 5000 miles on them. There are 2 new tires and the other 2 are 70%. The timing belt was just replaced and engine retuned along with a new battery. The body is in very good condition for this vintage of vehicle with only minor surface rust in a few spots. This vehicle was well maintained. Selling because it's time to make room in the shed. $2800 OBO 715 256 0526

I don't know, 2800 seems very high even though it's clean. The items that only have 5000 miles on them could be 20+ years old. If it were a 5-speed and 1/2 the price I'd be tempted...

If that was white it would be the car that I was carried through hell in high school. Worn out glow plugs meant for very slow starts.

Let me tell you, a gang of punk rockers running from rednecks after an altercation is not served well by a car that doesn't want to start and when it does is only capable of 0-60 in 20-25 seconds.

That poor dasher was riddled with kick dents. It was also a dreadful excuse for transportation. 50mpg is no excuse for that lack of any performance. Imagine driving a chevette "scooter" with only 3 cylinders firing with the E brake on and a 55 gallon drum of water in the hatch. The dasher was slower.

You gotta love....'time to make more room in the shed'. My first thought was that the seller was about to replace one long time wheeled resident of his shed, with another.
