Ok--- I know this is a shot into left-field, but it never hurts to ask. The 81 Champ I just bought is missing the top of it's air cleaner. I'm having a heck of a time trying to find one, as it appears all early 80s Mitsubishi products ( and badge-engineered products) have returned to the Earth.
Let me know if anyone has one. The car has the 4G32 1.6 liter carbureted engine. This wasn't an uncommon engine at the time, but they are tough to find these days.
If I can't find one, I'll have to fabricate something--which may be interesting, but I figured I'd check with you folks first. Let me know if anyone has a line on one!

How about the Mitsu dealership (if you can find one.)
A pizza pan and a drill bit may solve the problem too.
Yeah, fabrication may be the answer. It would be more fun too!
How about a aluminum foil pie plate and crimp down the edges like you're storing leftovers?

That awesome powerhouse would suck that pie pan right into the carburetor.
Sounds like an excuse for a whole day of wandering all nearby pick and pull yards.
I feel like I just saw a Champ at a salvage yard here in FL...
What about one from a Ram 50 or Mitsu Mighty Max pickup?

I think the air cleaner was different. Those had 2.6/2.4L engines
Still searching!
I saw the car for the first time this weekend. It's a total time warp and even SMELLS like 1981! It does have more rust than I anticipated, but nothing too serious. It's quirky, weird, and more than a little ridiculous. I'm digging it!
For the time being, it's running with a sturdy cardboard air-cleaner top. If I can't locate one, I'll fabricate something. Thanks for the help!
In the rare event I run across one at the yard do you promise to buy it from me(at cost)?

Smells like 1981?
In 1981,I was a high school sophomore and started to drive. I certainly hope it does not smell of sophomore boys.
But, on the other hand (literally) there were other monumental events that year. Formost is the thought that I actually rounded third base that year so I will hope that your car in fact smells of 15 yr old girls combine with the distinct sent of Loves Baby Soft and dis-guarded Jordache Jeans (of which Brooke Shields was both associated with.)
