I love the idea of it but definitely don't have the money for it right now. When I can file taxes I'll let you know if I'm gonna have the extra money for it, plus I should be starting at Nissan next week, making more money, so that will help..

Don't forget you'll need a performance radiator with an rb20. They haves a tendency to run hot on normal ones. May run you up some if you don't haves one.

yes I had heard that they tend to run real hot
I'm glad I still have some time left to make an engine choice. still have a lot to do before its time for that decision
I still say you can fit anything in there, but if you go with the RB, I can be a good source of info and an happy to answer any questions. Its one mean engine and I'm interested in the humps to overcome putting it into that chassis since I'm keeping it in mind myself.

right now it looks like it'll be either the rb or the 5.0, but the rb looks to be too expensive to get done, $500 radiator, $500 cradle/mount kit, $1400 engine/trans/and all =/
will be looking at vg's later
In reply to corytate:
Try $200 radiator, $300, mounts and engine with trans as you stated.
I can back either up. I have one of each.
Edit: misquoted the mount. Look into that. There are likely waaay cheaper options. From what I understand as long as you modify the oil pan, you can use stock mounts.
have been thinking alot and may just go after a vg or a 280zx turbo engine to have alot left over for suspension wheels etc etc. boost limits on unopened l28et anyone?
In reply to corytate:
It's sounding like the L28ET can handle 18 lbs safely. People have gone over, but you may start to run lean with stock fuel management
wow 18 psi soundsl ike more than enough for what I want! I just found an sr with trans, ecu, harness, intercooler piping, etc etc for 700 on craigslist also. Glad I've got some cheaper options out there. $500 l28 with round top carbs on cl too, it is a non turbo motor so it has the internals I want, I could use my good carbs and 2.4 head on it and run a high comp (10.5) n/a engine too
A VG30DE should be $free or close to it. It'll make ~225whp on a challenge budget easily w/o boost or tuning. That'll make an old Z move pretty quick. I like them.. smooth, decent power, sound good. A DETT can be found $cheap, but they don't pop up often. The sky is the limit with that motor.
Depending on how cheap you want to be, how much power you want to make and/or easy button... why not get a KA24 for $free from someone discarding it from their 240? They apparently love some boost and are easy to work with.
I agree with your thought process on the last post - I'd leave as much $ as possible for suspension, wheels, tires, etc.

I have thought alot about a ka also, a friend of mine has one bored a little over that he hasn't been able to sell, would be perfect for boost lol. we were actually going to use it in a challenge car last year but ended up not being able to get anything set up

Should do just as well as an SR20DET if you boost a KA24DE. You might need to modify the mounts and once again the oil pan possibly. That's guess work on my part.
