Not sure if it's the plastic or aluminum style, but a friend just had one crap out, and it's freakin' cold out. She's struggling a bit financially right now, so iIm trying to help her out. Hook me up!

It's probably a Bosch. See if you can find a part number to cross reference, as the blower is probably common to several German cars. I bought one for my Porsche from these guys. They were the cheapest that I found:

Are you certain it's the blower motor? I had wiring/connection issues in the fuse box that kept the blower in mine from running.
In reply to mrhappy:
the odds are that it is the resistor pack and not the blower motor. The blower motor typically only fails after the resistor pack partially fails and you run the blower only on level 4 for a period of time.
If the blower itself is not working, often it's because the bearings have seized. You can take them out of the car, free them up and lubricate the bearings, and get them to work for quite a while before they are totally dead. However, as mentioned above check the resistor pack first, and make sure there's power and a good ground at the motor.
I haven't actually looked at it yet, but the way she describes it, the bearings are shot. She said it works sometimes, and when it does it makes a horrible squealing sound, and as you would expect, the squeal stops the same time the blower quits blowing.
16v. are you still looking for one? i bought one to replace mine off of ebay and unfortunately i got the wrong one. the one in my car is the short fat one (large radius fan cage) and the one i bought is the long slender (smaller radius fan cage) one. i have no idea which is for the aluminum and which is for the plastic. if you want to measure the length of your and it matches the one i bought i will sell it to you..... for CHEAP! mc_snyder at comcastdotnet
Maybe. Oddly enough, that was for a friend of mine, and she's since sold the car. Now mine is making a squeal, but I'm not sure which one I have. I'll let you know when I find out. Thanks!
not to talk you out of taking this off my hands, but since i couldnt swap mine i tried dousing it with lithium grease at the output shafts and that has made a huge difference. it still makes some noise, especially when really cold and at the highest speed, but it is a million times better than it was.
