I know it is a long shot, but having no luck local. Looking for a good 4.7 V8 for a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Same engine in some Dakota's, RAM's and Durango's. Prefer a wrecked vehicle, but will consider just the engine. Central IL, but willing to trace 250+miles for right deal. Thanks Guys.

Jesus. I scrapped a complete wrecked but running '99 GC Saturday. I can tell you where it is, and they'll pull it for you and sell it if you're interested.

Like he said, make sure you've got the correct year. In '03 and '04 they had two different engine management systems, so if yours is one of those years you have to check the reluctor ring on the crank shaft. The early 4.7L has a 16 tooth and the late has a 32 tooth. If you swap one for the other, it won't run.

02-04 H.O. 4.7's have the 16 tooth, as with the 99-01 4.7's. 32 tooth versions are the 03/04 'regular' 4.7's.
