1976 Mercury Capri
4 cylinder, 4 speed manual
two owners, in storage many years
virtually no rust, original floor pans
runs and shifts well, brakes work
$1700 or trade for motorcycle
Pix look like a Pinto 2L OHC; car looks quite decent.
Not mine, I don't know anything more about it, but if it's as described ("virtually no rust" and an eastern Capri are rarely found in the same thought) it looks like a good buy for somebody!
If I hadn't just bought another Fiesta I might be tempted....
There was a 74 (I think) Capri race car for sale on Baltimore craigslist a few months ago for $1500. Looked to be in great shape.
This looks nice too.
I am wary of terms like "virtually" but yeah, that looks pretty decent. If I hadn't filled the last place to put something around here with another E36 I'd go have a look.
Looks far too un-rusty to hail from Pennsylvania. I like it, and that color would look great on my fairlane.
Are you all trying to talk me into this? Don't you value my marriage?
;-)
That looks exceptional! Wow. And for that money. Good thing I'm not closer.
Yes, looks like the Lima 2.3. A turbo Lima 2.3 is an easy swap from what I've heard. Use a Merkur wiring harness. Since they had to use the federalized engine in the Merkur, the engine wiring is separate from everything else, unlike many Fords. Supposed to make it pretty easy. Of course, a T9 from the Merkur is a perfect 5 speed upgrade for a Capri since they were used in later modes after they stopped importing them to the US.
Thanks a lot Eddie... just the sort of info I didn't need. ;-)
Oh my gosh! I had a reddish orange one when I was 16, dogged it, and learned a ton about wrenching. Over time I blew 2 motors and the rear end . The 2.3l was a easy and cheap swap but no power, it did come stock with macpherson struts and sway bars, kinda unheard of on a street car... it did last me through college though!

lol I'm here to facilitate- er, I mean help!
Turbo 2.3L is an easy swap but go with the T5 trans not the T9. You can put the V8 T5 in with a few minor mods. I did a conversion but didn't finish it before I sold the car. The new owner had it running less then a month after he bought it from me. Oh well.
Damn this is so tempting, it is in my price range and look like it's in damn good shape. Are parts and stuff hard to come by with this? This would be my daily too haha
