Very rare, RUNNING 1970 Fiat 850 Racer with original paint. RESTORATION PROJECT. There were only 2890 imported to the US. VERY few remain. This one, while in not the best condition, does have all it's "Racer specific" stuff except side emblems for hardtop and package tray vinyl panel. The Door panels, Console, Special vinyl for seats and interior trim are all there...but of course will need new cards for the vinyl panels. Seats are in decent shape. The engine is a 100GS3.040 817cc engine from a 1968 Spider/Coupe, but does have the 903 oil pan. I have a correct, mostly complete 100GBS.040 engine for a fee if the new owner is interested.
The carburetor has been rebuilt. The engine runs well. It does not like to idle well though. The car does drive but only for moving it around the driveway and such. Yes, I had it out on the street, but it needs brakes of course. I used an auxiliary gas tank to supply fuel.(This is not included in sale, nor is a battery). This is a restoration project, needing alot of rust repair in the floor sections and bottom portions of the body.
Pictures show condition. Please refer to them before asking about the condition. OK, here are the details:
ENGINE: Runs well (see video). No oil leaks for the time I have had it running. Has aftermarket straightpipe header (very cool). The engine is not original to the car but I do have a complete period correct running 903cc engine for an additional fee if buyer is interested. The engine is an 817cc from 1968, but does have the later style aluminum oil pan. I have had it running but have not run it very long, or put in any antifreeze...just wanted to verify that it does run and verify that the transmission works in all gears and the car actually drives...which it does.
TRANSMISSION: Working in all gears, clutch feels good.
INTERIOR: All racer specific trim is there, console does have a small area in front of ebrake handle that is missing(see photos). The vinyl is in decent condition, but the backing cards will need to be replaced. Most of the dash instruments are of the early type except temperature.
CHASSIS: All there, seems to ride ok, but of course will need brakes, etc...Tires are old, but do hold air.
BODY: It has some rust, but all original panels with original paint and no body filler. Hardtop was stripped of it's vinyl top and sprayed in body color at some point. Floors have considerable rust. Inside of front bonnet has rust as well as battery tray, but no evidence of any wrecks, etc...Missing bumpers and marker lighting (no I do not have them). I can supply correct bumpers if desired for an extra fee if desired. ALL GLASS IS GOOD!!! Hardtop has some rust through towards the front on the top and some rust at the edges where it meets the body. Hood opens and closes fine and is not rusted at hinges....but is rusted/tweaked at the front outer skin(see photos). I HAVE ALL THE HEADLINER BOWS FOR THE HARDTOP. I took down the headliner as it was falling down in places.
ELECTRICAL: I have not really investigated much, but all ignition and starting systems are good. Tachometer works.
WHAT WOULD I DO: Well, this is a very rare car and deserves to be restored...but by someone with the means.....not for the weak. It's a chance to own a very rare piece of Italian history...in which NO ONE ELSE will have...unless you see one at a big Fiat car show maybe.
