Dang. I didn't realize that was a tactic.... Effective, but sketchy.

Or they flagged it so no one else would offer and they could lowball.

Exactly.
my buddy's trying to get me to buy the '98 Z28 6MT that he bought new. black over grey leather, t-tops, 145k miles, up to date on everything, spare OE rims with Blizzaks. headliner is falling and radio buttons are naked. $3k. i want it, but i don't want it. and no, i won't give you his name number or location.
But is your buddy's car a Cameroon Z28? They were a special one year only model, from what I am told. Apparently only sold in St Louis.....

For that price, especially knowing the complete ownership history, hard to go wrong. You could stuff it into a tree and as long as the drivetrain still functions still part it out and make your money back.

And that's exactly why I'm probably going to buy it, even though I am really looking for something that I want to DD. I just can't argue with the performance per dollar.

If you can deal with the E36 M3-tastic 90s GM interior, ergonomics (which I actually liked, but others seem to hate), and so-so mpgs, they're really not bad as a daily.
In reply to Furious_E :
when i moved to Detroit to get into the auto industry, my first job was as a vehicle performance validation engineer at GM's Milford Proving Ground. I did ABS and Traction Control testing on the '94 Z28, so I do remember the ergonomics being pretty decent. But i was 26 then. i'm 51 now. when the salt is gone from the roads, i will take it for a drive and see if it's something i think i can live with.
