I have a rust free, ~150K mi. four door automatic Sidekick Sport (1.8l four-cylinder) that just threw the timing chain idling at a stop light. I'm in Mid-Missouri. It's in fair condition and would be great for getting to and around "deer camp" if you wanted to put in an engine. If you're interested get back to me asap as it'll probably go to the salvage yard Monday...
Is this an interference engine? The interwebz seem inconclusive on the issue.

Dunno. The shop wants $2K for a new engine and I don't have it.
you can but a 1.8 from an esteem or 2.0 from a tracker/vitara, areo or a 2.3 from an areo for less than $500 and fix it. any of the j??A engines will work.
i would go the 2.3 route 155hp v the 1.8s 125

no pics handy as the car's at the shop and not here at the house. Tried Copart on the Vitara/Aerio/Esteem with no luck. Any other sources online?

WooHoo! Found a 2.3 just 20 miles from here! I don't have the ability to swap the engines and I don't think my shop will do it due to warranty issues. How much do you think it would cost me to find someone who could do that swap?
is there a vo tech school near you?
