  • Bunch of primary wire.
  • Dual Brake Master Cylinders and or Pedal Set

Does it say in the rules that we can trade?  It seems to me it should count against your sell off if you trade a $100 part for some other $100 part.  The sell off rule is there for a reason.  Otherwise trading seems to skirt the sell off rule.

Q: If I negotiate a crazy good trade deal and it is recorded properly, i.e. trading my used challenge car fuel pump for a brand new Nitrous kit, is that against the spirit of the event?

A: Actually, trades like that are a way to build a fast Challenge car and are condoned.

Ouch, that was a dangerous response to give.  I'm thinking that one should be reversed immediately.  It's a great way to get around the sell off rule.  We should remove the sell off rule if we have a work around.

Wheels777 has mentioned the complexity of explaining the rules to someone outside the event, with it having "free" items like tires and brakes.  Well "trading" parts for other parts of challenge value really skews up the rules.

I was talking about the actual rules we discuss at The Challenge, not one of Tom's rulings.  No offense Tom.  I appreciate your rulings, but this is an obvious problem.

I disagree, trades are a lot harder to find than selling parts to gain budget.

I bought a parts car for my challenge car for $500, pulled the engine, electronics, and other easy value items from it, and sold the shell for $400. The pile of electronics alone is worth $1000-1500, plus a motor and trans. Selling off those parts would be easy, trading them for things I want (see above) is harder. Thus this thread.

That said, this is not the thread for rules discussion, that's what the Challenge Supreme Court is for, I'm just trying to work some trades.

Shoot me a text then, maybe we can work something out. Two67 NineOh8 Six7Two5

Depending on the deal I am willing to go a decent amount out of my way to make things work for challenge budget. (Drove 16 hours in one day to pickup a parts car, 12 of those hours in dumping rain, and loading it up took an hour in POURING rain.)

"Any inside deals—parts, whole cars, trades, donations, stolen parts, etc.—must be added to the budget at fair market value. "

Quoted from actual rules, not Q&A.  So trades are not budget exempt

With all due respect this isn't the place to debate it.  I like you but beating dead horses is kinda overdone .

Again, not the place to debate, but that is related to inside deals. Hey buddyyyyy, why don't you buy a crate engine and "trade" it to me for this used tire....

I have never built a challenge car, but have followed it closely had love the concept.

I always thought that the limit on the car was that you couldn't recoup more than the value of the car for the budget.  If I can use the parts off the car at zero value after full recoup, what is the difference to trade them?  I can see if nothing off the car was used, then we are into a different issue.  As long as some major component is used, then I would think it would be fine.

But as I said im not even a noob.  Just a former quality manager who likes the process!

How much DOM or primary wire is the Turbo Coupe transmission worth to you?  (What gauge do you need?)  I happen to have a bunch of this stuff.

DOM is my primary objective. I want to switch to a full cage rather than the roll bar, but with the 1.5" .090" which is well within SCCA specs for the car's weight, and more compact and lighter than the 1.75" roll bar in place now. This will technically limit me to 11.50 seconds on the drags, but I think I'm ok with that.

So basically, I need enough for a cage, plus extra for messed up bends (expected), plus extra to do lots of welding practice on before the real deal. Shoot me a text and we'll see what we can work out. If the trade only gets me part of the DOM I need and I have to use budget for part, it's still better than using budget for the whole thing. 2six7 nineoh8 six7two5

The primary wire is more for lighting for street legality, so if I take it off come challenge time it would be fine, but if I can fit it within challenge budget, and be able to legally drive it on the street, even better. That said, I also have to hook up my standalone, I'll probably be able to use most of the stock harness though.
