So I am looking to trade my 2002 Mercedes CLK 430 for a comparable Miata or similar small-engine manual-transmission, street-legal, track toy. I have had this car for three years, my brother bought it new. It has 260,000 miles, but I had to change the gauge cluster so it reads 170,000. Once you own it, that information is yours to do as you please.

I love this car and it’s a great commuter. Heated seats and the AC works. The color and high propagation of Mercedes here in Atlanta render it virtually invisible to speed enforcement.

It still has the original stereo. I use a blue tooth adapter and it sounds pretty good.

The joy of the car is a solid, torque monster 4.3 V8. It will propel the old girl with alarming force. I have had all the work done at local independent tech with all of the records.

It’s not perfect. I have one key, it’s pretty chewed up but works. The driver's seat has two tears, the door seat controls wood is delaminating, the front clip is from a 320 and the paint doesn’t quite match. The headliner is dropping at the corners. But it’s a solid car and everything works, even the electric rear window shade. All of this is in the pics.

Tires are new this year, and I change the oil every 5,000 miles with Rotella T6. The next thing it will need is Service A which is due in about 3,000 miles.

I just can’t really put this car on a track. I want to get back into track days and instructing HPDE and this car is not made for it. She is quick, comfy and capable but too heavy for that kinda work.

This is my DD, so what I trade it for needs to work for that as well. No projects please. I know I am going to make a comfort sacrifice for a track toy. That’s OK.

Replying here works for any questions you might have., or post below or email at evilmental at gmail dot com. Thanks for your time.

Sweet Ride.  Those wheels look great on there.  I don't have anything but projects to trade, so I'm out. But someone here will hook you up.

Having driven this car recently it drives far far better than anything of this mileage should.

Why not not use this for a track car though? I’ve used my CLS which is even bigger and heavier.  A bit of work and weight reduction would go a long way.

I kinda like it. I also have a 95 miata that would be fairly decent once I get some time to finish it.

Thanks for the comments guys.

It came with the sport package, which is the AMG staggered wheels and suspension. They do look good.  I almost replaced them to square the wheels all the way around, but I couldn't find anything that looked as good.

Given the caliber of the Miatas being offered, the idea of making this a track car is gaining ground. I just hate the idea of it dying on a track when its such a great car.

Why would it die on track with you behind the wheel?  You're about as talented of a driver as I know.

Oh, and if it does become a track car, can I take a run in it during an HPDE day? wink

Its not my driving skill, it's my questionable mechanical capabilities and bad luck with track cars. AKA your avatar!

A 260k mile engine on the track sounds like an explosion waiting to happen.

And of course, you can have a turn at the wheel!

This sounds like time to invest in a newer DD and start prepping the Merc for track duty.

You know that even with the best intentions "stuff happens" and tracking your only car can get you into trouble.

You'll need to log in to post.
