I'm in GA. No titles prior to 1986.

In Connecticut, the no title cutoff was 1981 until a tear or so ago. Now it's 1996.

No Titles in New York prior to 1973, you still had to prove ownership.

But a bill of sale is enough in NYS for pre-73 vehicles. No further proof requited, in my experience. You can ask the police to check the VIN to see if it comes up stolen.
