First off, this is Not Mine, Family Affiliated; my dad bought this car last fall on a whim for probably too much money. 8 months or so later, after going in on an RX7 with our race team and having me do front brakes and wheel bearings, it's time to sell. Due to the condition of the interior (and exterior, tbh), I think becoming a stripped down track / weekend / challenge car would be a good fate.

Here's the local CL Ad:http://albany.craigslist.org/cto/5673165310.html

The Good: Runs really well, makes good oil pressure, trans shifts well. Feels oh so good to drive on back roads. The aforementioned new front wheel bearings, pads, and rotors. Has a Mann oil filter on it, so the shop that the PO took it to wasn't terrible. Radio is original, and works. Odometer works. Lights are great. Locks work. Power mirrors work. OEM stainless rear exhaust section, sounds great. Factory 15" phone dial wheels with magnesium lug nuts and locking covers (with the key, obviously).

The Bad: Timing belt should be done before starting it next spring, probably (I may be conservative on this, but I don't believe we ever got a receipt to validate the PO's word on this). The suspension is pretty fine for driving on the road, but I would start replacing some stuff for optimal driving pleasure. New struts were put on the hatch, but it wouldn't stay latched (keep a stick back there). The sunroof does the thing that Clarkson's did (pops up when you close the door). The passenger window just stopped working (both switches). Body has a wrinkle on the right rear fender and a dent on the left front rocker (has been lifted correctly it's whole life though!), and has peeling clear coat. Missing a front cowl piece I believe. The driver's seat is ripped, dash has a couple cracks, and the emergency switch is being consumed by the dashboard (but works!). Tires are "StarFire 2.0", but that's because no decent tires exist in the OEM 15" size.

The Ugly: See above, depends on your goals for the car...

Price: I think my dad will take $2016 for it to go to a good home. Other offers welcome, but cash is probably best.

That looks like a good deal!

Still got this. Kind of surprised at the lack of interest, any particular reason? Or are 944s just not in demand right now?

I'm interested, but unfortunately my wife is not.

Looks like a decent example. Newer models tend to get more attention, but 944s never really seem to have trouble finding buyers. I'd post it to Pelican Parts and Rennlist forums.

Alright, now this thing is haunting me.

How is the rust situation? I've sworn off rusty cars forever.

In reply to Brett_Murphy:

The Porsche 924/944 after 1979 have their bodies entirely galvanized, so they tend to not have major rust issues unless the finish is damaged (my 924 was filled with water when I picked it up, drained and left outside in the rain for several years with a leaking sunroof and to this day it is still not rusty.)

Fasteners are also mostly galvanized, but its more common to fight some slight rust with those, but its not as common on other vehicles of the era.

Not helping, trying to sell the WRX and find something "interesting" to replace it.

Did you say WRX for sale? Did I miss the listing here?

I didn't have it listed here, but I fixed that in the open section.

Really the only place they seem to rust is under the battery which is over the heater unit on the Passenger side. They handle great, firm feeling but not jarring. Only other common problems that come to mind are oil cooler seals and rear hatch window if parked in warm sun for years may slide out of the crimped rim... I do miss my 85- 944.

That car has really good potential. If nothing else di a front end service and move it on for a nice profit.

These cars really don't rust. Battery tray is the big one but that I an easy fix with modern adhesives. Ball joints can be a pain as you ate suppose to replace the a arm but there are now kits that slow for just replacement of the balljoint.

I really wish that was closer. I am sitting on a pile of parts at the moment that I could make that a really nice car.

I also really really like that color. Probibly my favorite 944 color.

The clear is really peeling in places. With the mileage, I really doubt this will ever command many dollars, but it has potential to be a really good car to drive a lot without stressing over parking lot dings, rock chips, etc.

Just drove it out to Boston and back this past weekend. I started out with a full tank, about 375mi later (an estimate since the OE speedo / odo is optimistic by a bit) it still had about a quarter left. And that was without using the broken cruise control, and I wasn't driving 55 either. There's definitely work needed to make it comfortable, but it's got a lot of potential to be absolutely amazing at roads like Route 2 through the Berkshires...

PS: I could be convinced to do a delivery to certain locations, if necessary

Today my dad rolled the 944 downhill into the Forester on stands in front of it. The right headlight cover (the bodywork part of the pop-up headlight) hit the tow hook and tore the metal. The headlight mechanism could use a realignment, but otherwise the car is fine. Also decided to no-start on me the other day (It did it to me the other day; ECU had power, cranked fine, but no fire), but started right up today.

New price of $1500 because of the above.
