With the key in the console between the seats, a little splash of coffee will get you dead in the water. Buy it, hair dryer it, maybe some contact cleaner; then just drive.
Nothing really to add to this but a story...
I have a very similar '01 9-3 'vert. I bought the car shortly after we started dating. That summer, she took me as her date to a wedding in a pretty shady area of Akron. It was a beautiful afternoon with weather in the upper 70s and mostly sunny. Perfect weather to put the top down and run up I77 to the wedding. This is exactly when I found a flaw in the design of the cup holder. Without the wind baffle installed over the rear seats, wind just pours in when you're at speed. There was a half full cup of water in the dash cup holder that was grabbed by the wind. It spilled on the ignition, power window buttons, and top controls. My car sat in the Akron ghetto top down, windows down and immobile for the rest of the day/evening. It finally decided to start (and unlock the wheel lock) at about 10PM. Surprisingly, it wasn't all that bad of an area and nobody messed with my car.
