No roll cage = not really a race car.
Saw that car on an Opel forum a few weeks ago. Yeah, not really a race car. Owner is trying to build it to look like one without the inconveniences. I think he referred to it being like a Netherlands build or something like that. Racing bucket seat with 4-point harness equals racecar, right? And only one seat. Makes it a racecar again. Windshields are hard to find and expensive. Otherwise, not to bad a shape.
I don't think they ever made good race cars, but I did like them.
In reply to Jerry:
What's wrong with the headlights? They manually rollover and hide. Cable operated. That's how the headlights are turned on, when key is on, rollover headlights to open and it depresses a microswitch that turns on the headlights and tail lights.
In reply to spitfirebill: Yeah, front transverse leaf spring was a factor with handling and had to beef up the rear suspension panhard bar. Engine compartment limited engine bolt-on go-fast goodies. Manta was considered a better car for racing. Used the same drivetrain, just had more room and better suspension.

In reply to wlkelley3:
Front leaf spring suspension can be made to function a lot better pretty easily, and yes I agree the narrow engine bay is definitely challenging.
I think Manta was also lighter then the GT wasn't it?
What made me laugh in the ad was the "Rare and valuable Weber carb". Unless he's talking dual side draft webers it's neither rare nor valuable. I'm guessing its the standard 32/36 weber that gets put on every Opel, Bug, and Ghia.

Speaking of Opels in challenge territory. Here's one.
71 Manta $1500
I'd go look at it but my wife would kill me! I've still got a Datsun Roadster chassis in the garage and the body in the backyard.
