That's not a DSM, actually. Those cars don't have any Mitsubishi blood. You could argue for the Starion/Conquest from a philosophical standpoint, but the first "real" DSM (built by Diamond-Star Motors Inc. in Normal, IL) was the '89-up Eclipse/Talon/Laser.

Considering how well they perform and continue to do so, especially compared to their domestic competition at the time (they were competitive with Mustangs and Camaros of the era) especially the crap FWD compacts that Ford and GM were producing, I wouldn't call them crappy.
