Not being a ranger fan, and knowing how insanely rugged a 22r is, I'd go the Toyota route. These price increases started 15 years ago with the 85 4runner. I owned one. Go look at what they go for now. It's a 1 year special.
The problem with the Toyotas is how badly the frames and beds rust. Sure other vehicles do too, but how many other vehicles have frame recalls on them?

LOL, true. Kinda like Subaru with brake lines. US trucks are as bad as Subaru but don't give a hoot about safety.
