Depending on the state, it may be possible to title. I titled my "body in white" 1979 Civic race car in Indiana as an assembled car. Had to have state police verify there were no identification numbers, and then I was assigned a VIN number.

Could you tell me more about the Indiana process for assembled vehicle? The Rice Rod has a '31 body, but the VIN followed frames back then so I have no identification whatsoever. I have talked to police and BMV and no one seems to know exactly what I need to do, which forms, etc...

I first had to obtain a form from the BMV that verified that the vehicle had been inspected by the police, and that no VIN was present. Then I had to apply for a VIN number with documentation what I had paid for the car. Then they assigned me a VIN number, which I had a trophy shop make up two VIV tags to be affixed to the car in locations specified by the BMV. Then I had to have the car reinspected by the police to verify VIN numbers were present. Once that for was completed, I could apply for a title with all the above paperwork. Yep, a lot of work!
