A couple months ago, Ben, one of our techs, was looking through a Summit catalog for a switch panel for an Exocet kit car. We came across a popular model for $139, and had to wonder how much we could make our own for.
Answer: A lot less. We've had a local job shop punch some aluminum panels and have them powdercoated, popped in the exact same switchgear the other guys are selling, put in some resettable circuit breakers in 10 and 20 amp sizes, and they're available for $109 on the website now.
And we're considering making a run of real carbon fiber ones, pricing them at the same price the other guys are selling fake carbon fiber ones for. Any interest? The weight is going to be about the same, but hey... carbon fiber.
