Flyin' Miata Habu for sale

Have you seen the Habu test in the latest issue of Classic Motorsports? Here's your chance to pick up one of these spectacular cars without the wait.

This car, based on one of the 394 Lava Orange Mazdaspeed Miatas, was built this summer. It was commissioned by a fellow named Terry who was battling cancer. He was only able to enjoy the car for a few months before he was no longer able to drive it, and has now passed away.We know he enjoyed the build process and his brief period with the car. As a favor to his family, we're helping the car find a new home.

Build diary

It has covered less than 1500 miles since the conversion, including our shakedown miles. Since every moving part of the car is addressed in the conversion, it's a brand new car. There's even a factory warranty on the 430 hp LS3 engine.

For full details, please see the listing on the Flyin' Miata website.

what an incredibly fun car that would be...someone will be very lucky! Alas, that costs more than the acreage I bought a few years ago.

I'll get this out of the way-

Man, If I was only closer...Boy if it was only closer...If I only had the money..If I hadn't just bought a Dorkmeister S7 yesterday I'd be all over this...Why didn't he just buy a Corvette?...You might have better luck selling it on the GRM site...If it were pink it would be mine right now...If it just had an automatic...SWMBO said no, or I...Will you trade for a Dorkmeister S7 with rusty seats and a torn rear end?....

Same here...

I've been wondering... how do folks who live in OBD II inspection areas get around that with these cars?

It returns OBD-II codes, so quite easily. Totally legal.

All the V8 conversions we build do so, but the standard ones don't return a full set of codes. This one has an E-Rod, which means it monitors the cats as well as runs the charcoal canister and thus returns a more complete set. It's quite easy to get through an emissions test, whether it's a plug-in OBD-II check or a tailpipe sniffer.

$47k seems pretty reasonable for The Perfect Miata.

GLWS!

In reply to Keith Tanner:

I understand that, but I'm just wondering how it works when the inspection guy plugs the car into the computer and enters "2005 Mazda Miata"... will the LS3 ECU spit out the same info as a Miata?

As far as I know, OBD-II codes aren't tied to the vehicle. They're an industry standard.

My rough understanding is that the car will pop out a series of codes that basically say "check XXX complete, no problems". If the car doesn't have certain capabilities - such as only one bank of cylinders instead of two - the return is "N/A". The E-Rod ECU will return a fairly complete list of codes, including twice as many O2 sensors as would reasonably be found in a Miata

It will fairly obviously not be the original engine. But the important thing is that the required codes will come back as checked and passed.

If you want to know exactly how your state DMV handles engine swaps, you'll have to contact them directly. To the best of my knowledge and experience, this car is legal in all states except for California.

You'll need to log in to post.
