Updated to do list:

-tires are at the shop waiting to be installed

-rf wheel bearing ( I think I'm going to let the shop do this as well) 1.5 hours labour doesn't seem worth the headache.

-alignment

-timing belt

-transmission fluid change/cooler

-???

Two small holes in the inner rocker addressed, I hate body work so there weren't many pics taken. Cut patches tacked in place seam sealed then rocker guarded. Should last two years. Also took the opportunity to secure the park brake cable which had rusted free of its mount to live a more liberated life.

Once that was done I figured I'd address the noise under the hood . I somehow missed this on all my to do lists. When ac was on there was a noise, a grindy kind of noise. A potentially expensive noise. Now I've had a lot of beaters but I've been spoiled the last 5 years with ac and if this thing needed a compressor I was ready to bite the bullet since the van is currently blowing cold air so the rest of the system should have been good (ignoring the potential for debris from a potentially self machining compressor). Upon closer inspection the noise seemed to be coming from the passenger side fan. Unplugged the fan and the noise went away. It doesn't even look that hard to change ! Choking this up as another win.
Van goes in tomorrow for tires and Thursday for alignment so should be rolling around in it by this weekend.

nice progress, and definitely a win regarding the fan. is it a noisy motor, or are the blades hitting something?

timing belt job on Odyssey is not as bad as several others i've done. honestly, it's not bad at all.  hardest part is removing balancer bolt, and that's easy peasy when you use the starter to do it. having said that, i did farm out the last one, because my buddy is a good mechanic and he needed the cash more than i needed to save it.

I seem to recall that I built a tool for it out of some iron pipe bits, braced that tool against the body of the car or the subframe, gulped mightily, and gave the starter a quick zap.  That was one of those things where I was really hoping that the Internet wasn't trying to play some sort of sick joke on me but like you say, it works and it works well.

IIRC the procedure is something like "before beginning work, start engine and pull fuel pump fuse, and let engine die of fuel starvation. then disable ignition. then begin timing belt replacement job."

The blades haven't hit the shroud yet but there's significant play.

Timing belt job doesn't look too bad...just not sure I want to do it or farm it out. We'll see in the coming weeks.

Having done the timing belt and water pump the first time, I had a local indy guy do it for the 2nd time. These vans are tanks in some ways and glass slippers in others. It's a little infuriating. Take your roof rails off next spare chance you get and window weld the roof seams. At some point they will leak water onto the front fuse box and cause you some not so fun repairs.

i've had two, a 2003 that was a Michigan 4-seasons car for 12 years, and our current 2010 that we bought in 2014, so it's been a Michigan 4-seasons car for 9 years since coming here from FL.  i haven't seen this issue with either of mine, but it sounds (1) feasible and (2) a PITA.

It never ceases to amaze me that you can come to this site with any vehicle and people will tell you everything that you need to know to address. It's pretty wild.

As of today I think I'll farm the t belt job out. Benefit of working in auto parts is I have a pretty great relationship with a lot of the local shops. Probably pull a string there and get it done.

+1 on farming the timing belt out, I've done three on the J-series motors and they always stress me out a bit. And having done one, I would definitely farm out the front hub/wheel bearing for 1.5 hours of labor.

Wheel bearing and tires are on, unfortunately the abs sensor was a casualty of the bearing replacement. Minor wound I suppose. Van is being aligned currently so should still have it driving to by the weekend.

'07 is a good year for the Odyssey, it's after they fixed the transmission issues that plagued the early ones (it got the Ridgeline transmission) and before they broke the cylinder deactivation (that happened in 08).

Our '07 was the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned, went 100K miles (we bought it new) and the only thing it broke was the transmission park/neutral switch.

So far I have put about 1000 miles on the van. No major hiccups so far. Tonight I installed a pair of front sway bar links in an attempt to cure a front end clunk, not sure which side it was but it's much better now. I think next will be the ac condenser fan as it sounds pretty bad.
Maybe do some crude paint repair after that as it's pretty bad in some spots.
Averaged a little better than 25mpg without trying on my last tank, should check the air filter now that I'm typing this.
