And that pretty much brings us to last weekend.

It lit off, but not without a hitch.  The oil filter relocation kit (pitman arm hit the filter in stock location) had a crack in the casting from the factory.  Pumped about 4 quarts onto the floor when I fired it.  Tigged that up and let it idle.

Let it idle in my 103 degree garage for about a half hour while I aimlessly fooled with VE tables.  Oil pressure was good (80 cold 55 hot) and it stayed right at 190 (195 stat) with the fan on.  As soon as I got it idling I tried giving it throttle and right at 2000 rpm it broke up bad with sync loss displayed on Tuner Studio.

Noisy VR sensor signal was the culprit.  Fix was re-wiring the sensor wire using good shielded encoder cable and putting 6.6k worth of resistors inline on the VR+ wire.

Questionable ebay BOV.

I've used that same one on my car and friends' cars. It's been pretty rock solid.

I'll try to figure out how to insert a video, but this brings us to current.

Right now I am tidying up the interior and building a cluster to mount gauges.  I've got an exhaust cobbled together out of a recycled 2014 silverado exhaust but its a little loud for my liking (see first video).

I'll try to keep the thread updated as I progress.  If anyone has Duratec and/or Megasquirt experience I am all ears.  I finally got the thing to start and idle somewhat OK the other night.  If you have any questions or want to see more of a certain part of the build let me know.  I probably glossed over a lot.  It has been a lot of work over the last 3 months.

Very cool!

In the window where you post a comment look for "Media Embed" which is right here and put your link there.  Looks like those links don't like to play well with it, but youtube and instagram and a few others do.

Is there a MAF in there anywhere, or MAP only? That BOV is probably hanging open at idle, unless you put a stiffer spring in it, which will screw with your MAF signal.

I'll have to make a youtube account so I can share some videos.  I plan on doing some fun stuff with this car.  Thanks for the tip!

Running on speed density so MAP only.  It shouldn't care what is going on before the throttle body outside of boost.  I still have to hook the BOV up though.

I think I remedied some of the idle issues the other night when I realized I had the IAC bolted on backwards, haha.  It actually reacts to a change in duty cycle now and doesn't randomly high idle anymore.

Also, a secondary note, this forum is pretty good about picture hosting if you haven't figured that out.  You can just right click, "copy image" and then CTRL+V it to get it to show up.  May take a while to load, though.  Right clicking and hitting "Paste" doesn't work quite as well as CTRL+V though.

Any chance of a link to the radiator/fan/shroud? My amazon fu is not great and I'm looking for something like that for my swaproject.

Worked on the gauge cluster for an hour or so last night.  Don't worry I didn't destroy any of the factory gauge cluster.  I'm still waiting on the speedometer.  As you can see my aim with the holesaw isn't stellar but with non matching gauges It is good enough.  Speedometer is on the way, hopefully it shows up today so I can finish this off.

And here's the mess I need to clean up this weekend so I can attempt to drive this thing.  I cut a ton of rust out from behind the seats and where the floor meets the back of the cab.  It will be fixed for function, not Barret Jackson.  I have a sweet set of late 80s/ early 90s Camry buckets waiting to go in.

This is the one I ordered:  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082HLZPZN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It is Falcon specific, but I had to do a little trimming to get it to fit right.

Awesome project.  I have a soft spot for Falcon's.  Had a load of fun in High School, with a 62 four door.  They were still kinda newish back then.  Carry on.

Good find - a lot of Ford IACs use the engine vacuum to help them open, and don't work, or do really weird things, when plumbed backwards. Can't wait to see where this project ends up!

Thanks!

I'm so green to megasquirt I don't even know what I dont know!  Every time I figure something simple out it is a mind blowing epiphany.  I'm really enjoying the learning process and trying not to get frustrated.

I think I have some IAC settings wrong.  The thing sounds like a bumble bee when it is being pulsed.  I've had plenty of '90s ford trucks and I never remember being able to hear the IAC like that.  Maybe it is just reverberating through my aluminum intake manifold?  I think i have the frequency set at 52hz right now

I, like Dirtydog, have been a fan of old school Falcons and Comets since before they were old school! I diggin' the "Ford engine swap for a Ford" plan as well. I love a SBC, and understand why they went in EVERYTHING for many years (and now the LS - I get it. I really do) But this is so much cooler!

Thanks and absolutely! The rancheros primary objective is bike hauler and daily driver. My riding has taken a back seat to this project unfortunately

I'll be honest it was really close to having an LS in it due to a massive LS knowledge base between friends and family. In reality a nearly stock 5.3 would have bern easier, quicker, and made the car faster in a straight line. My first car was a Merkur XR4ti so I guess I've got a thing for obscure turbo 4 cyl fords that I couldn't shake
