Yeah, It's from a Mustang II (1974-1978) with the 2.8L V6. The trans Ford used in that car was a Borgwarner trans (T4) that had the same trans-to-bell bolt pattern as the later T5's used in the Fox Mustangs and some other vehicles. I picked it up very cheap. Here in the US it is also sought out and I've heard prices of $200-$300 for them.

We were on the lookout for one 20 years ago (almost) for a twin turbo MkI Capri we had, but never found one. Since then, Burton Power has started selling an aftermarket version for the V6 and T5...but at 720 UK pounds it is a rather big investment. I also see that their alloy bellhousing for the Type 9 is the same price. Maybe I should keep the one I have saved from a XR4x4 indoors. Soon it is the most valuable "spare" part I have ;-)

It has taken forever to get the new gearbox crossmember ready and in the car. And then it started snowing again.

But yesterday, it was time!

First time out, and first test of the spare gearbox. This one downshifts into second fine, no issues there.

I have some noise that sounds like zip tie or somehing against a drive shaft, could also be something inside the gearbox. I will have to check that but otherwise it seems fine.

The question is, what do I do with the other gearbox, the one with the nice gear kit? I got a new synchro set for 2nd gear but that's a rather big job - since the 0,80 5th gear does not fit through the casing like a higher ratio gear will.

I think (I know) I forgot to brag about the other car magazine feature me and Kajsa made into. The largest Swedish car magazine.

A total of 5 pages, rather nice actually.

And, today, I went for the final (?) MOT for the Capri. It turns 50 next year and since it then will have a valid MOT, it becomes MOT exempt. Not that I have felt the bi-annual tests are an issue, really, apart from the fact that the cutoff date has been quite early in the year (in reality, driving the car before May is rarely realistic, because of...winter).

Somehow I still feel that having someone else looking the car over every now and then is pretty good. I might opt for a voluntary test eventually. Maybe.
