I'm actually really loving the Grand Marquis hubcaps right now, but of course can't locate any (yet)

I always thought they looked cool.I keep looking at this picture and thinking about how much redoing the wood is going to cost and I think just 2 tone paint might look pretty sweet. Chestnut brown instead of the gold and ?? something lighter on the inserts....Who's good with photoshop?
What about that factory cream color for the inserts? The chestnut brown isn't going to be much darker than that gold color. Or maybe a lighter brown?
Another thought. What about just taking the trim around the inserts off, grinding the studs off and making it a two tone or solid color?

I'm thinking the cream or a tan of some sort, either can act as a good base for faux woodgraining if I dont like the look. Although a gold like the darker color on the Grand Marquis wouldn't look bad with the brown either but I dont know how I feel about gold.
I think the trim provides a nice break for the 2 tone so no need to loose it, and when its polished up it should look pretty nice. If you look at the pic of the Grand Marquis it has similar trim separating the colors.
Ok, looking at color samples (I have the color chart here from paintforcars) and I think the Chesnut Metallic with Antique Gold inserts might work
The Gold is actually quite a bit darker in person but still enough of a contrast with the Chesnut to really work. Of course it would also work good with the Merlot Metallic which is a bit closer to the original color. But the wife likes brown and the Chesnut is "more" brown. I gotta do something to get her to like this thing ;)

I had a chance to look at the pictures again, and yeah, the trim is similar to the GM. I was seeing something different in my head.
However, you gotta take off that JC Whitney rub strip that runs the entire length of the car.
I think they killed several plastic trees to make that.

Yeah, It seems every picture I've seen of a Colony Park each one has a different style rub strip on it. I doubt the one that is there is original so I'll feel no sadness in loosing it. I am worried that without it there to break up the expanse the thing may get to looking slab sided but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
I actually like the caps that are on the car already. Polish them up a little and slap on some sweet rubber.
So, this car is why I said Torque thrusts. Someone had said wires and whitewalls- This immediately popped into my mind. Car's name is Gypsy Rose BTW, and it took the painter 2+ years to do the sides of the car.
And actually, that's not even the "famous" Gypsy rose. this is the 2nd one, the famous one is the 3rd.... this one got crashed and sold.
Paint aside there's a huge difference in the style of that car and the colony park. Although its done in a lowrider style its still a muscle car body style that can pull off the wheels. I just dont think the colony park will pull them off properly.

Wow, I really like those colors - perfect for the giant wagon.
Ok, I need to hurry up and get this thing here. For the first time since before we moved in here the driveway is empty. Cleaned it up this weekend, plenty of space for the big wagon now :)
For the wheels, what bolt pattern is that monster? If it's 4 1/2", how about something like the 17" version of a Magnum 500 that they used on the '03-04 Mach 1? Just use a SUV profile tire?
For the side inserts, what about doing something like lace painting, but create a groovy '70's pattern (plaid?) with that vinyl cutter to make the "lace" mask?

Fair enough. Had to get my idea out there or it was gonna drive me batty. No offense taken.

Hmmm...you may be on to something there.
Ya got me thinking more on this one Rob, eyeballin' different lace styles for something different.
This might be a winner ;)

Got the wife to thank for that, when she decided she wanted to move she called her realtor friend who helped us find our first house. She knew about my garage addiction already so the 2 of them went on the hunt for a house that would get me to move. Unfortunately it's in a development which is something I really didn't want but the garage helps :)
That is similar to what happened with us. Our new place has a nice second garage in the basement (currently full of challenge car) that pretty much sold me. This was something my wife knew I wanted so she made a point to try and find something that fit my needs as well as hers. Isn't it great to have wifes that get you!

I think she just likes to get me out of her hair ;) She knew I wouldn't give up garage space in a move, I wasn't real big on the idea of moving in the first place. Of course she had hoped that 4 bays would mean her DD could park indoors but that never happened, but at least her VW Thing has its own bay now.
And some more candidates for the lace treatment. I like the idea of doing a lace treatment but want something not so feminine, these may do the trick.
Ok SWMBO is down with the lace treatment but not my choice of lace...too "halloween" for her. So we will be looking into that more.
She's also getting into the wagon a bit more and is talking about decorating it like the ghostbusters car next halloween.
Gonna have to agree on the halloween comment. I don't have anything to add after that but spiderwebs and skulls are a little difficult to pull off outside the 'Ween.
