Mounting engine .. because I am putting a front drive engine in my rear drive car, getting motor mounts, a wee bit of trouble. I thought about just using the one mount on the front cover as it is mounted from factory and using the transmission mount. To stuff engine in the car... next , engine goes in level, should i cant the transmission a few degrees to the driver?
Have you got some photos of the engine/box/car you're dealing with?
On the mounts you need a way to resolve the torque reaction. It goes fore and aft on FWD, yours needs to go left/right. Lots of ways to do it, just make sure you have enough rubber to take the 4 cylinder secondary vibration out. You can lean the engine/transmission some by rotating it about the crankshaft axis, but you are limited by the engine oil pickup, not the trans. the gearbox can be rotated quite a lot if you are making your own bellhousing adapter. The crankshaft axis does need to be parallel to the chassis center line viewed from above.
Fixed first problem.i will be using energy suspension Polly transmission mounts at the tranny and will use them for motor mounts to the new engine braces
In reply to Alfaromeoguy :
Those do not come remotely close to resolving the torque reaction if they are below the crank center line. Torque reaction brace needs to be at the top of the engine, or you need two widely separated front mounts like your Alfa had when it was Alfa powered.
My new engine braces,..
crank will be just above centerline, but can be adjusted to fit. Cannot lower engine anymore, steering gets in the way
Will measure the height of mounts tonight when home.
Mount points in red, for the basic steel plate to engine above is exhaust sideabove is intake side
