That last shot is pure art. It rivals the over-posed Jag scrap metal pile.

Oh yeah. The engine is no problem, it's all the ancillary garbage that gets in the way. Fortunately, its a very tall engine bay, so I'll be able to layer a little bit.
I hate to say this, but the last progress post was a bit of a tease.
I'm going to be gone all week for a training exercise, won't be home until Saturday morning.
Expect me to hit it hard again this weekend, though.
I leveled up the front end with some wooden blocks. The way it was sitting in the last photo, the top of the hood is right at 6'. (It hadn't really occurred to me just how big this truck was going to be until I measured this.)
Which, in turn, means that the steps will be at around 31". Too tall. My wife's only 5'3", she can't deal with that step.
Both fenders are rotted at the rear bottom edge, so I'm going to have to repair the bottom edge anyway. My though is to extend the rear portion of the fenders down an extra 5" or so. That way, I can mount the steps lower (more like 25").
Additional musings: I could use the original speedo if the 4x4 chassis tire diameter roughly matched the '48 chassis tire diameter. Roughly 37". Super Swampers. However, wife does not like. I will work on her, see if I can bring her around. For the sake of awesome gauges, don't ya know. Also, if I put 37's on this chassis, it will raise the frame (and therefore, body) height by an additional 2-3".
With regard to wheels: no. The wheels on Charlie are "widowmaker" split rims, apparently really nasty to change tires on. I'm gonna pass. If somebody wants them, I imagine we could work out a deal.
I'm not sure just exactly how many and which modern amenities I'm going to be able to retain. Cruise will stay. Power brakes and steering will stay. Will find a way to retain some kind of heat. Not at all sure about AC, that's something like half a dozen cubic feet on each side of the firewall.
A few more pictures, for your perusal.
We're overdue for a Charlie update. Made good progress today. I'd love to share, but Photobucket is frozen, and I'm tired of screwing with it.
I'll try again in the morning.

We will hold you to it.
As to wheels, hummer dual beadlocks bolt right up, and come with nicely sized tires :) Can be found reasonably priced at auction, or elsewhere.

Photobucket is horrible. Everyone should use imgur.com

agreed. The 'html' link they give you for the photo can be used directly in the forum.
You'll need to log in to post.
