I live in Daejeon. Lemme know if you wanna do gymkhana or track stuff. I'd be happy to translate and make introductions.

Hah, do I EVER wanna do gymkhana and track stuff. I'll PM you with my local phone number and we'll see what we can set up on the down-low. I'm not strictly speaking allowed to operate a privately-owned vehicle while I'm here.

I can think of no better reason to get demoted and kicked out of the Army than for borrowing a racecar in Korea.

I do have a turbocharged Tiburon that probably needs a little more exercise.

But if you're only operating it on a closed track it wouldn't count, correct?

Dredging this back up from the depths as I prepare to move back to Kansas from South Korea in a couple weeks.

One of my close friends has all but talked me into dumping a first-gen 7.3 Powerstroke motor in this for the sake of torques and stupid-simple wiring. I wouldn't consider this kind of major change except that the 5.4 is a little bit... teeny tiny in such a big truck, and the engine management wiring is RIDICULOUS.

Anybody want to try to talk me out of going diesel?

In other news, Mrs. InKansas finished the carpentry on the bed in my absence. Headboard, both sideboards, countersunk hardware. She's awesome. Pictures soon.

I'd say use a Cummins instead if it wasn't for the fact that the 7.3 is a bolt in swap.

The wiring is manageable, dont give up yet...besides I put an old cab on a PS once...took a lot of hammering/cutting to make the clearance for the down pipe...just find a good wiring diagram and sit with it...of course iam an electrician, so iam a lil biased...just got done putting chevy tbi on an old F250. I have faith in ya! Awesome truck ya got started there!

Project creep is a horrible thing. Get it moving as is and if you still feel like you have the need for more power, then make it a new project thread.

This.

The systems engineer in me says to finish with what you have, and then at a later date go diesel. It's called "iterative development," and it's awesome.

I would probably go the 7.3l route. 5.4's are OK for the F150's but don't have the grunt this thing deserves!

I would get the 7.3 but don't install until it is finished and running.

... when you're right, you're right.

Tackling the power-everything, computer-controlled-everything wiring harness is a daunting proposition, but at least it's already in the truck. Probably a quicker solution than the diesel for now.

I still think it'll come to that though.

Okay, dredging this back up. Unfortunately not the way I'd like to.

Headed to training in Alabama for a year plus soon, then probably overseas again. Wife will probably have to move in my absence, as the jobs she wants require county or city residency. I have too many toys and this is the least friendly to move.

Somebody take this off my hands.  For you guys, I'm thinking $750, but make me an offer.

Hey! Just read through the thread, and even though a lot of the pictures did not show, I like the work! Had to laugh when I read you were thinking about extending the fenders to lower runningboards! Was already thinking it needed that! I also had the "453 would be a great fit" thought!!!

I bought Charlie!!

And first fuel stop 10 minutes later!

Now we just have to drive 14 1/2 hours home to Alabama... coincidentally a few miles away form where he’ll be stationed for flight school.

No mechanical problems on way up with either Big Red, or the trailer. Bout a third of the way home; so far so good!

Drooping fender, bed jumped on top of ramp, and a bad taillight (now replaced) and only getting 9.8 mpg, but we’re pedd ling on home!

thanks for all the encouragement.

Good God, it is big, though.
