Yeah I took a look when I left work at 1am.

Apparently these are the answer if you want your plate seen from space.

Pretty happy with the look of a new street setup.

Also I got mail from Seth yesterday.

May 10th last year at NCM during One Lap was probably the first time I took time to look closely at an NB. It was this one. I thought it was neat.

A year later I own my own NB and am about to use it to fall down a rabbit hole of doing racecar things.

I also met Spacecadet and Sleepyhead that day.

That was a good day.

Good day is relative. We proceeded to start you down a path of ruining your life.

It's a fun path..  but we're still going to ruin you.

Well if it wasn't for you I'd be trying to build a Caprice station wagon into a CAM car with a straight face instead of trying to get my fully functional stock Miata ready for an autocross.

Edit: the Caprice is still destined to be a CAM car, just I'm going in knowing it's dumb now.

In reply to Daylan C (Forum Supporter) :

You'll be able to haul all your tools/jack/etc. to the track in the Caprice, so in many ways I'd say that's smarter than needing a trailer and/or tow vehicle.

I have to find a picture o how I used to travel around Texas in my NB with 4 wheels and tires in the car and trunk and all my tools, my jack and a bag of clothes

You could just post a picture of a can of sardines. Or a moving van stuffed to the roof. Or one of those clown cars with 30 people in it. They all look about the same as your car did. laugh

But I did it!

And the other 2 tires packed standing upright side by side in the passenger seat. Shut the passenger door slowly but firmly and it all worked.

A good seat is the single most impactful change you can make to a Miata, in my opinion. They make all the difference in feeling connected to the car.

So I'm home now. If it wasn't obvious. I did my first autocross event today. An event popped up at Grissom, Bobzilla offered me his guest room, so I signed up.

I got 5 runs in. Botched the first one by going on the wrong side of a confusing cone. Hit a cone and spun on the 2nd run, got closer to right on the 3rd run. Finally got 2 clean runs with the 4th attempt being my quickest run.

I'm not sure you'll get another long story post out of this beyond that. But the short version is that I drove my ugly Miata to Indiana, played race car, then drove home with no real issues*. And in the process decided this is definitely a thing we do now.

Pretty damn good day.

*I did bend one of the pretty street wheels on a pot hole just south of Indianapolis, which is definitely an issue but It didn't cause any immediate problems.

It's not leaking air or shaking or anything, so I just threw it on the back when I put the street wheels back on and didn't think about it again the rest of the day. I'll decide what I'm doing about it later.

So I borrowed mom's Durango to go pick up Roland today. Told her to feel free to take Golfball if she needed to. She's the one who initially taught me to drive with a manual trans, and the car has proven itself to be pretty damn solid, so I felt confident that she'd be fine with it.

She apparently didn't like my seat mod though.

But yeah. A race car is a car you race. Golfball has a tech sticker to prove it now. That means I have a racecar I can let my mom drive to the store while I have her truck.

I think the car is a win.

Edit: somebody told me I need to adjust my parking brake. Remembered that looking at the above picture.

So 2nd autocross today. It got nuked by weather so we all sat around at NCM attempting to stay dry with varying levels of success while we held onto denial that were were going to get to run today. We called it at 12:15 when we still hadn't gotten the first car off.

Here's a picture dump now.

My crap can pitted next to somebody way more serious than me.

My numbers I would soon find out I did wrong and had to correct.

Attempt 2

Huddling under a tent with some strangers realizing that heavy rain makes the 6' rule go out the window. (Most of us had masks up)

Apparently the drainage situation couldn't keep up resulting in a river through the middle of the paddock.

One of the dudes in the 1st run group being extremely optimistic about our chances of actually getting to play racecar today.

And finally, sharing in our disappointment and misery were motorcycle guys who came to play on the road course.

Also briefly got to see Powar and his Mini, so that was cool.

So a work opportunity lead me to Michigan. Golfball was the only car ready for the trip. I realized this means I've had the car in 9 states already.
