So a few things happened with the vette Thursday. First of all I had the nt01's mounted on the parts car wheels. The fit ok even though the wheels were not as wide as I would like.
The 305's fit out back with no rubbing as did the 275's up front.
That part of my plan went well.
I next installed the new radiator. It went well until I let it run for a few minutes after buttoning it all up. I noticed coolant running down the side of the radiator just like the original. A little digging led me to determine that one of the hoses from the throttle body had a small cut in it. I cut the offending piece out and reattached it. Leak disappeared.
Who would have thought the radiator from the crash was fine. Bottom line is I wasted $115.00 ughhh
I think I can use the original radiator for my challenge s10 v8 swap so hopefully all is not lost.
The next thing I did was mount the new re11's. Unfortunately when I put the mounted wheels on the balancer I determined 3 of the 4 wheels were bent.
Oddly enough the wheel that had the piece of wood in it and bore the brunt of the impact was the only one that was undamaged.
On to pictures...
The wheels from Craigslist are all straight but they weren't very clean. On top of that I am not a huge fan of chrome.
So a short trip to O'Reillys netted me two cans of etching primer, two cans of gold wheel paint and a can of clear.
Started by scuffing the chrome with a green scotch bright and then 220.
Then some etching primer...
They kind of remind me of the TrailerParkcet. There are 4 wheels for some reason I only took pictures of 3 at a time.
A light coat of gold
I skipped taking pictures of a bunch of painting and clear coating, but here they are drying before mounting the new tires tomorrow.
I think they will look great on the blue car.
I loved blue cars with gold rims untill the wrx sti crowd way over did it. Now no matter the car that paint scheme is on I think Subaru.
Really like those wheels....gold wheels on a dark colored car always pop, even if they remind me (like they do dean) of the subie kids

That wheel weight would piss me off. The chubby look is in despite what the fashion models say.
Not worried about the wheel weight to much. It is a track wheel. The previous owner sprayed them with plasti dip and I should have pulled it off better before getting the tires mounted. I will clean and paint them correctly when I get my next set of tires.
I consider myself a fairly decent citizen and I'm sure the gentleman in the picture is as well, but I would get antsy if a cop suddenly started taking pictures of me too.
Body shop is charging $2000 to fix everything else and paint the entire car.
Are you painting the entire car, or just the replaced/repaired panels. Still good deal in my world if 2000 for the panels.
Looking great sir - let us know how the paint holds up on the old chrome. That was a creative thought with the scotch brite pads and self etching primer to get to a good finish. The gold will really pop on the bright blue.

Affordable AND fast! Every car I have ever had painted has pulled a lengthy stretch in paint jail. As a result, I have a low opinion of all painters. I blame it on the fumes.
