We have the Jeep back for a few weeks now, and my wife reported that it's driving much nicer.

Until yesterday, when the Chuck Engine light came on. Code points at "engine too cold for too long". Let's hope it's something simple like a thermostat.

A new thermostat and we're back in business. Looks like the thermostat that came with the reman engine failed open, and during the sudden cold spell up here, it wouldn't warm up at all. New thermostat fixed that and we now have a toasty heater.

This Jeep seems to turn into the car that keeps on giving. It's been fine since the thermostat replacement, until I noticed a fair amount of coolant under it last night. Looks like I get to run to the store and find me some Dexcool (that's what the reman supplier specified, I checked with the shop) and see if i can figure out where it's leaking from.

Fortunately my wife doesn't need to drive it much for the next week or so.

I have no doubt that the shop will fix the issue under warranty, but I need to make it work for a few more days.

What concerns me a little is that all of this is happening even before the first post-engine install service, ie within 500 miles.

Looks like a jubilee clip on one of the hoses needed attention. Did that, topped up the coolant and right now it's not leaking. Let's hope it'll stay that way for the next week or so.

Here's the good news:  if you addressed the early rust underneath, you have a pretty valuable Jeep on your hands.  When you've had enough, at least you can feel comfortable you'll get something back for all of your troubles.

In reply to Loweguy5 :

The rust is only addressed-ish, as it wasn't in that great a shape when we got it. I probably have to crawl underneath it to have another go in spring.

My wife is not going to let me sell it anytime soon as she tends to get very attached to her Jeeps. So any value of the vehicle is academic until personal property tax time .

Oh, and it's leaking again, just not that much. So at least I didn't make things worse. I think...
