So with the return to the forum I am going to try to explain the lunacy that is bounding through my nugget as of late.
I have been on a forced hiatus for over two years. Divorce, depression and financial destruction are a terrible combination. I am out of the woods and preparing to hit the pavement rolling.
The car: I have made a deal on a 1980 Ford Fairmont Country Squire 5 door wagon. Originally an inline 6 car a 302 had been hacked into place at one point. I will be getting the steed sans drivetrain for "1/4 Challenge credit".
The donor: Many of you have noticed that Dean was selling a 1994 Ford Mustang on this very forum. I needed a SN95 Mustang to perform the suspension swap on the Fairmont. This was a better value than what I had ever hoped. I know the owner, he is methodical and thorough with his maintenance. I get a drivetrain AND a complete car to build at a later date! All wins in my book!
The plan, as we wait to get both chassis home, is as follows:
The Fairmonster will get from the Mustang: Complete front suspension including K-member, control arms, brakes, calipers. Rear axle assembly complete. Brake booster, master cylinder. Engine, transmission, harness, exhaust, cooling. Dash, gauges, console, seats.
All effort to make the car look relatively stock will be taken. There will however be surprises and tricks left in the bag!
Yes a V8 would make it faster, possibly more fun, but the goal of this project is to get it to Gainesville by October 22, 2015.
