So with the return to the forum I am going to try to explain the lunacy that is bounding through my nugget as of late.

I have been on a forced hiatus for over two years. Divorce, depression and financial destruction are a terrible combination. I am out of the woods and preparing to hit the pavement rolling.

The car: I have made a deal on a 1980 Ford Fairmont Country Squire 5 door wagon. Originally an inline 6 car a 302 had been hacked into place at one point. I will be getting the steed sans drivetrain for "1/4 Challenge credit".

The donor: Many of you have noticed that Dean was selling a 1994 Ford Mustang on this very forum. I needed a SN95 Mustang to perform the suspension swap on the Fairmont. This was a better value than what I had ever hoped. I know the owner, he is methodical and thorough with his maintenance. I get a drivetrain AND a complete car to build at a later date! All wins in my book!

The plan, as we wait to get both chassis home, is as follows:

The Fairmonster will get from the Mustang: Complete front suspension including K-member, control arms, brakes, calipers. Rear axle assembly complete. Brake booster, master cylinder. Engine, transmission, harness, exhaust, cooling. Dash, gauges, console, seats.

All effort to make the car look relatively stock will be taken. There will however be surprises and tricks left in the bag!

Yes a V8 would make it faster, possibly more fun, but the goal of this project is to get it to Gainesville by October 22, 2015.

I love Fairmonts. Especially the wagons, every time I see one I have visions of q ships dance through my mind.

So the deals are officially struck on both chassis, the realities of time are a concern. I will be dragging the Fairmont for an hour home but the Mustang is getting picked up on our trip back from the east coast. In Lmost a month leaving a month to disassemble two and reassemble and test a car to be driven across the country.

I'm driving the MUFFEDSTAIN to the Challenge. Sort, tune, tweak, show up is a much better business plan in my book!

Once I return from the Challenge the SN95 gets the gutting it deserves!

Congrats. Sounds fun. Please, please, please tell me you are going to keep this a real sleeper. There's a red fairmont wagon that's been in the magazine a few times where the text always starts with some BS about people being surprised by being beaten by a wagon. Taht car is as much as a sleeper as a berkeleying McLaren at a Honda civic meet and no one would ever be surprised by it being fast. Keep this on the DL.

What are the long term plans for the SN95?

I just had a car truck shipped for less than 50 cents per mile delivered.
The new rules read: "Costs to pick up your hooptie from the seller are exempt."

Does this help your time line?

AT: I am not painting or changing the exterior at all. It will be wearing 2004 P71 wheels with Ranger Dog dishes and trim rings, 205/55r16 and 225/50r16 tires. Under the hood will have a twin turbo 4.2L V6 with a column shift auto...

JRW: no time savings really. I'm working 7day weeks 9-12 hour days until mid September which is perfect because it will helped me roll the plans forward a year on the Challenge entry with the relatively stock Stain.
