As others have said, the EV stuff isn't really my bag, but I'm not gonna yuck someone's yum.
More details on what you did/are doing for the carbon roof and such?

I have seen this Tesla on our local autocross. Really fast. 😆 If am not mistaken RCA sponsors Rockford autocross. My son has done ride along with him.
YUP that's Adam and yes they do sponsor the Rockford Autocross. RCA guys are great I've been friends with Adam for 25 years.
@Mr_Asa
Two layers of CF for the top surface, plus a monocoque structure on the bottom side molded around pieces of foam for strength and stiffness. Will post pics once I finish!

Do what now ...?
Sigh. My devices keep autocorrecting "Lexan" to "Pecan" :P .
Eeeeeeeeeee, 505 Represent! Glad to see someone else in Albuquerque on here.
Also in for the Tesla content.
Cool project!
Got em mounted! Still have a little trimming to do, but they technically fit! Yes at this point I just cut the car out of the way of the tires :P .
Next upgrade: 10 Jan, full Supersport coilover and 5-arm billet control arm setup.
Next track day: 1 Feb, Laguna Seca!
The goals for this wheel and tire setup:
1) Maximize lateral grip relative to my current 19x11, 285/35 setup.
2) Maximize tire heat management and "multitasking" by going ~1" taller than the typical 305/30R19 to increase tread surface area.
3) Fit 410mm front and 370mm rear brakes this summer (partially for looks, and partially in the hopes they will run cool enough to allow lapping on a good street/track pad).
4) A little bit looks :P

There seems to be a few of us on here. For a while, I thought everyone was from Florida or Ohio.
@Lindenwood - You plan to go to Suika at all? Would love to see this in person.
Always thought a stripped down Tesla weather the S or 3 would make for a fun drive. Had a 01 S8 that was right around 4000lbs and was way more fun than the size indicated.
Not a big EV guy but I do appreciate the effort you are putting into this car. Looks like some of those little 1/4 bolt on flairs would be just the ticket for the poke from the new rims and tire.
Which I will say give the car the attitude it needs.

How did/are you attaching it? Some form of 3M adhesive?
In general, adhesive for panels has facscinated me.
This is such a sick build, that thing looks like an absolute weapon. Probably the first time I've seen a Model 3 and thought "damn"! Can't wait to see how it develops.

I did a couple days at Suika (when it was Sandia Speedway), but live in CA now. I only ran a 1:38, as at the time I'd only done I think two AutoX events plus the two-day HPDE in this car. I'd like to go back and try to break 1:30, especially with the new track surface!
In reply to Mr_Asa :
I will be attaching it with urethane adhesive (that's how the original is attached, just like a windshield!)
In reply to Lindenwood :
Ah, gotcha! Glad you escaped the land of entrapment. I've been trying to move away for years. Living near Laguna sounds like a blast.
Yeah, I miss the name. Suika is.. ehh. I can see sub-1:30 being attainable!
I just have too much stacking up to get done before my next day at Laguna Seca on 1 Feb, so my friends at www.ZEVCentric.com stepped in to install my Supersport setup, flush in new RBF, and a full alignment!
I still need to install my Lexan windshield to pass tech since my glass one is cracked. And, I'd love to finish my CF seats and harness bar to run my 6-point-converted Schroth ASM harnesses. But, progress is progress!
Super slick-looking car! Have you pushed it at all to see if there is any rubbing with the wide tires??
Dig it - I just upgraded to 275/30/20 Potenza Sports that the Rack had marked down to $600 delivered for my M3P. Can't wait to slap em on when the snow melts here.
In reply to jfryjfry :
I've been finding more and more opportunities. I think there is one more spot where the tire can rub the metal front bumper bracket, but there is space for trimming. Otherwise, it just rubs the fender liner a bit at the rear of the wheel on sharp turns. I need to wait until I have time to actually make a replacement panel, though, so I don't have to drive weeks with water and stuff spraying into fender.
Otherwise, got my Lexan windshield installed today! Saves 27lb after removing the wiper mechanism (7.5lb with wipers), and another ~10 when I can remove the washer fluid bottle and pump.

I love the stupid little mouth you gave it I've always thought model 3's looked unfinished and goofy without something in place of a grill.
Shakedown day on Laguna Seca! With inconsistent conditions the track varied from semi-dry in session 2 to "definitely wet" in Session 3 to "mostly wet" in Session 5.
Still, everything worked great! The car oversteered when expected and understeered when expected, but in the occasional dry patch definitely showed a lot of potential! I ran the car "detuned" to 290hp for consistency, and ended up at a 1:57 with a 1-2s passing delay in one of the final wet laps. My coach (who runs <1:35) estimated I'd have been able to do a 1:48-1:49 in dry conditions, while he was cutting 1:41-1:42 at this power level.
My goals:
next event: 1:49 at the detuned power
following event: 1:45 at the detuned power
later events: 1:39 or better with higher power settings.
alignment:
toe: 0f / 0r
camber: 3.4f, 2.3R (low to offset the 9Lives wing and wide tire setup).
We set 30 psi cold and ended up at 34 PSI "warm," but they never really got up to temp. Outside edge wear was a little low (partially owing to not being able to push that hard), so I might shoot for 32 PSI hot next time.
I ran formula-routed sub straps, which I liked. Not ideal, but the seating position in these cars is actually quite reclined at ~30 degrees, so it made sense. Still working on my seats for a more permanent solution.
I'm a hardcore ICE guy but cool cars are cool cars regardless of powertrain and I think this is a cool car. I look forward to seeing where this goes and hope I never have to race against it-lol
Curious about your power consumption. Do you use TeslaFi or anything like it, and can you share the data? I'm especially wondering about if you have difference in efficency pre and post weight drops or other changes.
Awesome build!
I see there are Superchargers at the track. Did you charge between runs for max power, or just at the end of the day?

It's going to be interesting if or when people find ways to get more horsepower out of these things. It's weird that they come with a certain power level and... that's it. You can make them lighter. You can improve the brakes. You can do anything to an EV that you can do to an ICE car... but you can't just double or triple its power output.
It's not like I have any ideas about how they can do it, either. Maybe when batteries get cheap/plentiful enough, people will start offering different packs with, maybe, higher discharge rates? Or... different motors that perhaps trade efficiency or NVH for high RPM performance (less back EMF)? Tesla carbon wraps the Plaid motors for 20,000 RPM operation--maybe somebody will start carbon wrapping rotors for other cars?
Lindenwood, do you have any details about that Lexan windshield? It looks very much like a stock windshield, which I did not expect. Did you make it? I always expect Lexan to be swirly and hard to see out of in the sun, but the weight savings seem well worth it.
Good shakedown day!
In reply to confuZion3 :
Given the way that batteries are integrated into the vehicle, I suspect "different packs" will be an equivalent level of effort to a complete ICE drivetrain swap. Not impossible, but not necessarily easy either. There are some hot rod options out there - the Performance uses a hotter rear motor than other 3s, so there's a swap option. There's also the S drive units if you feel like doing the equivalent of an LS swap. You may have to upgrade other items like the inverter to handle the higher loads - and maybe inverter upgrades will become a way to deliver more power when necessary.

Thank you!
Hrmm. Even in this detuned state and in the rain, I peaked at around 35% per 20-minute session. I did charge between every session, though the car will make this power down to probably 30% so I could have skipped charging between sessions.
I don't use TeslaFi. I am using the MountainPass Performance "Cooling Party Controller" that requires splicing a little box into some of the battery control system. When active, it runs the cooling at 100% (including during charging), and allows you to run pre-set power limits (modified by plugging a laptop into the device).
