Progress on the motor and trans mounts. Everything is at least tacked. Still need to plate everything and finish weld.
is the front of the engine cradle/rear suspension only supported by the spring? What's to stop fore/aft movement of the assembly, or to prevent it from hitting the frame when the weight is taken off of the wheels?

Yes, the spring does support the front of the cradle. It also acts as a flexible joint/pivot. The rear of the cradle is connected directly to the rear axle housing. The stock Explorer leaf springs are still in place which support the main frame and prevent the fore/aft movement of the cradle with the exception of the slight fore/aft movement of the cradle which is caused by compression of the rear leaf springs. There is a slip joint built in to the front spring assembly which allows for this movement.

Fuel tank is in and plumbed to the fuel pump.
Steering box is in process.
Fitting the cab at the same time to make sure everything works together.
Gutted the swiss cheese floor to make way for a new raised floor.
Plan on reusing the original parking brake handle
This is cool!
Cab still needs to drop another 8 to 10 inches.
Relocating the Headlight Buckets
Removed much more floor to lower cab further
Cab needs one more inch of drop
Everything below the blue tape on the cab and doors will go.

The Cab is in its final location, just need to trim off the bottom of the doors.

Spray-on Bed Liner inside and out. If its not Black, its Chrome. Stock bench seat with new cover and seat heaters with an A/C unit hidden under the seat. Chrome safaris front and back. And, of course, I tractor steering wheel.
Started on the integrated roll cage/body mount system for the Cab today. (Lower part of the picture, the part in the middle is temporary bracing)
Started building a compartment to fill this void in the frame under the seat. It will house an A/C-Heat unit.
Started with a sheet of 18 Gauge
Unfortunately, my electric metals shears broke a few days ago. Had to make due with tin snips
With any luck, this will be a rectangular under seat compartment in a day or two.
