Wow, helpful gal! If I asked it would go something like this:
"Honey can you help me clean this oil pan"? Dirty look and slammed garage door.

That's how I normally imagine it going but she always says yes.
She wants to learn about cars and actually knows how rotary engines work quite a bit from hanging out with me while I was cursing to myself in the shop learning about the RX7.
Piston engines confuse the hell out of her though.
Ghooble wrote: I don't really like the 17s either, they're just what came with the car. I'd like a set of 15" rally wheels if I could find some just to be authentic. Maybe a set of WRX wheels might look nice..
look up "teamilluminata" on here. He's the US distributor for Braid rally wheels. :)
Thanks Irish, I'll take a look.
I won't be getting much of anything done this week. A combination of a lot of homework, me being away from my Celica/MR2, and being on the other side of the state will make it kind of hard to do anything lol.
Might clean the RX7 to get it ready for sale though..
I picked up an entire carpet set for the front half of my 7 today from the scrapyard. Looks like they had Blackdragon Auto's kit. The yard let me have it for $13.50 and I installed it tonight.
I'll find my center console and install that tomorrow probably then take pictures. It actually looks pretty dang good for $13.
If I had a second Alltrac or could find a cheap enough drivetrain...
I met a guy who is going to try and put an Alltrac Camry's drivetrain in a FX16 though so I can live vicariously through that.
Back in Ellensburg now and I decided to tackle the complete fluid change throughout the Celica.
The rear diff's fill plug is in the most annoying spot between the gas tank and the diff cushion and was torqued to like ~75ft/lbs but I finally got that off. The fluid that drained out was pretty gross looking and the bottom like 5% was all metal shavings mixed with the fluid making it look like really liquid-y JB weld so I assume it hasn't had a fluid change in quite a while.
The transaxle fill bolt wasn't too bad but the drain bolt is right next to my lower control arm on the driver's side so my deep sockets wouldn't fit into the spot. I tried using my 3/8" ratchet with the socket on it and while it has enough room to get on I can't get enough torque on it even with a 1' wrench stuck to the end of the ratchet. I tried using just the wrench on the bolt but there's a casting piece that blocks the use of a wrench unless you take off a crossmember that's on the other side...
Needless to say I'm calling it a night because I don't want to make a 3rd trip to Autozone tonight. I'll deal with the transaxle bolt in the morning and grab my friend's transmission funnel to do the rear diff since I can't squeeze a bottle into the right location to actually fill the stupid thing.
Pics will come when I finish.

Thanks man, they're all pretty nice cars and I enjoy them.
Here's the pictures for the fluid changes.
Here's how much oil was in my transaxle (flash made it a weirder color than it was)...
Here's why I couldn't get the drain bolt off with a wrench (the casting on the left side of the bolt) and why I couldn't use a deep socket (control arm on the right).
And here's the fill location for the rear diff (inside the slot on the left).
Fluids I used:
Engine oil: Valvoline Synpower 5w-30
Transaxle: Pennzoil Synchromesh 75w-90
Rear Diff: Valvoline Synthetic 75w-90
Well..The Celica's transaxle is leaking..might as well learn how to rebuild it while I'm there.
Has to be done before winter so it's time to start pricing parts.
So I bought a second transmission for the Celica off Ebay for $800. Should be here in a week or two.
I figured if I had a second one then I wouldn't be rushed to rebuild the first one and berkeley it up as easily.
Down the rabbit hole I go.
Hopefully there aren't too many fuxed up things down there..while the engine is out though it's getting a thorough cleaning and my search for missing bolts shall continue.
Engine tear down has officially begun.
Pic after I pressure washed it off and of both the projects in the shop right now.
Pics are in the right order I think and of course there is more to come.
My Celica and my old MR2 (now my friend's)
Engine start.
Battery out, fuse box unbolted, battery bracket out.
Hood off
Coolant drained out
Radiator and fan removed. Probably could have done without taking it out but I didn't want to risk cracking it and it gave a lot of extra room.
Airbox removed, wire labeling has begun. Dad is lending a hand.
Heat shielding off of the exhaust
O2 sensor stud stripped hardcore and the only way to get the nut off was to cut the bolt.
Exhaust dropped...also dropped a bolt in there. Will have to fish it out once the engine is pulled.
Just a picture of the cruise control unit mounting
Pic of the temp sensors coming from the head
More wire labeling
Driver's side of the harness pulled out
That's about all I got for now. Going to help my buddy pull the engine into the MR2 now but I'll hopefully finish the vac/wiring labeling tomorrow.
Did more work on both cars today. Worked on the MR2 more than the Celica because he had to head back to Ellensburg today and we wanted to get the engine ready and inside the car but I got some stuff done on the Celica while directing AJ on the MR2.
More wire and hose labeling. Intercooler off too.
I found that I couldn't get the wiring harness off the intake manifold without removing down to at least the fuel rail so stuff had to start coming off.
This bracket goes here (I'm using these pictures for a reference as well as just to show what's going on)
Here's where the sensor is for the coolant entering the Throttle body
Other side of it
Cold start injector has some carbon buildup
That bracket on the right with the vacuum solenoid removed
Fuel rail out. That's where I'm calling it for the day, don't want to make myself too tired and start to forget to tag things/where things go.
On the other side of things though we got the engine in, oil lines hooked up, water lines hooked up, and fuel rail on it.

Dude, she's definitely a keeper. My girlfriend just makes fun of me when I talk about rotaries in my sleep.
This thread rules! The older MR2 and FB RX-7 are two of my dream cars!
sethmeister4 wrote: Sweet! You ain't messin' around!
Nope! I mean business with this car.
This goes here. Coolant overflow for the inter-cooler.
Overflow removed, these hoses bolt under it.
Remove the wires that were caught up in the hoses and EGR and...BRING IN THE CHERRY PICKER
Engine finally down.
Engine out and away from the car.
Engine bay is getting a good wash now..
And after.
Will wash the underbody better some other time. This is where I ended the day.

Thanks mang. They're pretty sweet cars, too bad the RX7 will be going for sale as soon as this Celica is back together.
And now for the pictures from today..Surprises abound.
Starter removed
Hoses that bolt above it removed
Wait..why does that CV axle look different?
OH E36 M3
Looks like the axle kaboomed from the bolts not being tightened enough...sweet.
Dad and I putting the engine on the stand
And it's on the stand. That's it for the day since it's currently my work week.

That's not a hole in the transaxle, is it? I'm surprised the axle had that much beef to it that it could make a hole if so.
The Subaru ones are like the dictionary definition of "driveline fuse," especially aftermarket ones.
If it is a hole, I guess you found your tranny leak. Congratulations!

Oh it's definitely a hole. I'm 99% sure it was the axle because..
A: PO complained about a driver's side noise
B: The axle is blown up
C: That's where the axle goes
D: The axle bolts were loose and some were missing
I think it's a safe deduction Going to have my brother try to patch it later on with weld. We figure if nothing else then I can use some quicksteel like they use on PPorted rotaries to fix it up.
Also my turbo rebuild kit has been ordered so I had it shipped to Ellensburg and I'll take the turbo home with me and rebuild it there.
Also I think I found a bottom box on Craigslist that's the same model as my Dad's for $100 so if I can get that it'd be a score.
